So, whilst waiting for the rest of my Episode 3 Obi Wan Kenobi build to arrive, I thought I'd start a WIP on my next costume, the legendary Admiral Ackbar. I've always had a soft spot for the Admiral since I was a kid, so this is going to be a fun character for me to be at troops. I got the amazing looking head and arm moulds from a maker in the States, the same guy that supplied James Mattock with his equally awesome Ree Yees moulds. The detailing and colouring on these moulds is fantastic. I have spoken to a fantastic costume maker we have in the UK about making the Admiral's uniform for me. Measurements have been taken and sent across to her :-)
In the photos below I have worn my Sandtrooper balaclava underneath the head, as due to the wide open mouth I would be very visible. I have to wear my balaclava quite high, literally right to underneath my eyes so I can see and so nobody would be able to see me looking up, like a child would. I have ordered another balaclava online which has a much smaller eye opening, so should be more comfortable to wear, and not make me so wary of it slipping down. Failing that, I thought about maybe attaching some sort of black 'veil' to the inside of the mask to cover the mouth opening? This is my first 'latex experience', so any other ideas or suggestion are welcome, along with the correct adhesive to use if I went down that route :-)
Many thanks, here are some photos :

Looks very good. Instead of having to worry about the balaclava slipping, why not just attach some mesh fabric in the mask itself?

Hi Kellie.
Yes, I think that is going to be the best way to do it, like I mentioned like a veil. What would be the best way/adhesive/etc, to attach the mesh to the inside of the mask please? I obviously don't want to damage the mask :-)

Many thanks

Craig

I would use velcro. That way you can remove the fabric and wash it, because it will get nasty in there.

Hi Kellie. Thanks for your input. I think I will attach it as you suggest. There is a 'return edge ' on the inside of the mask, above and below the mouth which would be perfect for a strip of Velcro to sit on.
Thank you :-)

You will probably also want to wear a sweat band while you're in the mask. It may run into your eyes otherwise.
