I am so excited about this costume, since it's very recognizable and cherished by all the fans of Star Wars.
In theory it seems like an easy dress, but then I read about the neck, the hood, the double-lining, and it starts to overwhelm me. Since I don't have time to sew and I didn't inherit the sewing talents from my family, I'm considering to commission it. But I still think it's worth trying to make it myself.
So far I like the versions from Sew Corellian and KhloesCustomClothing @ Etsy. KCC doesn't make the belts, but she said she wants to start making them and offered to make me one for the cost of the materials.
Any advice will be helpful and greatly appreciated. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

I haven't bought from either of those sellers but many of our members have made this costume and can help you if you decide to give it a go yourself. _________________ Stay on Target |

I looked at a tutorial that was posted here and the costume looks very easy, but I need to secure yards of white fabric to begin with. I'll give it a go as soon as I get paid. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

I think a couple of Sew Correllian dresses just came through the approval queue and they looked great.
As for KCC, most of her other costumes are not approvable as-is. There aren't enough photos on her site for me to tell if her senatorial dress is or not. It looks decent, if a bit shiny, from what I can see, but I can't tell if it has the required skirt slits or the keyhole in the back. If you could get photos from her of the back and the bottom, we could tell more easily whether it would work as-is or not. _________________

I think I'll go the path of self-accomplishment and make my gown.
My friend offered to help me since she has a Senatorial gown she she built for Halloween. Sadly, her gown doesn't meet RL standards, but she's a huge Star Wars fan as well and knows the requirements for an RL approvable costume, so she's looking to fix her gown as well. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

A great fabric choice is called "jet set" and can be found at Joann Fabrics. I think it runs around $7 a yard without sale or coupons, usually you can find a JoAnn's coupon online or download the smart phone app. It's a knit and has a beautiful drape to it, perfect for this dress. |

I saw the jet set fabric on sale two days ago. I always vouch by Joann because I always find what I want and the staff is always helpful.
My friends go to a local store that sells the fabrics a lot cheaper, but I don't like the place because it's disorganized, overpriced and the staff tends to be rude. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

Just went to Joann, and they don't have the Jet Set knit I need. They have other colors but not white. They attempted to sell me an interlock fabric that looks too much like cotton knit and that won't work. I thought about buying fabric for swimsuit and dancewear, but I guess I'll just wait or order the dress. It's getting too stressful and I can't add to my overall stress. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

I'm sorry fabric shopping got so stressful. If you're willing to do online shopping for this, it looks like the fabric is on sale at the JoAnn web site right now for $2.99/yd. _________________

How many yards do you need? I've got a bit of a stockpile of jet set in white. I'd be willing to part with some of it for the $2.99/yard price plus shipping. |

According to a tutorial I read, I might need 8 yards for both the dress and the lining, but I'm only 5'3".
I'm still undecided on whether to make the costume or commission it. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017

It's happening!
Found an old blanket to use for the mockup pattern. I followed Pam's tutorial because it seems easy and straightforward. I added some extra inches to her dimensions to make adjustments.
I gotta go to work, so I'll keep working on this when I have more time. _________________ Dowager Queen Delegation Leader 2015-2017
