As we all know, Slave Leia is the most risque costume of all the movies. Most of us submit this costume as our first official costume and then we have to get started on another costume because most troops won't even allow wearing it.

Last year, before I joined RL, I wore a thong under the costume, and I was mobbed by security guards asking me if I was wearing underwear. That resulted in a costume policy to make the event family-friendly and I had to commission a special panty to wear under the costume. I also have strapless thongs but I'll never be able to wear them except for a photo shoot and make sure they're very secured.

Also, I have a pair of dance shorts (Capezio) in a color very similar to the skirt. I know some people wear similar shorts for family-friendly events.

So, what are your recommendations to make your Slave Leia as screen-accurate as possible without making people uncomfortable??

I really like your idea on the shorts. My old Slave Leia costume was my first RL approved costume and I understand how difficult it is as a new member when you want to troop but can't.

As an LCJ, I approved and granted permission to a member in Singapore whose costume is Slave Leia to wear shorts under her costume because she explained to us that she lives in a very religious country and Slave Leia on its own isn't even appropriate for a convention there.

As for my undergarments, I always use strapless adhesive panties. But of course there are always people who question what I wear underneath my costume lol.

I have a similar issue as a member of the 501st legion. My only approved 501st costume is Mara Jade as Arica and I have yet to be able to troop as a 501st member because that is also another revealing costume.

Back to Slave Leia, I really love the idea of the shorts and I hope we can make this an option for more family oriented troops Slave Leia Leia Buns

I saw the pictures of the Singapore girl, but I'm not talking only of very conservative places, even in America. I know you live in a conservative state and mine is just weird (full of people conservative at their convenience). Plus, I like to see how far I can get away with in AZ yet.

Like I said, I use a special bikini bottom I made that provides enough booty coverage but it's not visible on the sides, except for the side ties that are gold striping. I also have something called the C-string, which is similar to the strapless adhesive panty but with some armature that claims to not fall. So far it hasn't fell, but it's tricky to wear. I did the adhesive strapless thong but I was afraid it would fall (before the RL).

When I made mine, I took a pair of panties and cut the sides out and it connects with snaps to the top of the skirts/plates. I use a bit of hollywood tape to hold them in place. Works very well.

Someone told me to do something similar, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Be sure you test that tape on your skin though, I got a sort of rash/burn/I-think-it-took-some-skin on my chest once with a dress of mine and that stuff

What Vera said! I have found leaving the tape on your skin when you get undressed and take the fabric off it. Then use baby oil to get the tape off your skin helps with the irritation and skin removal, but its not perfect.

I finally figured it out, Beth. I attached the swimsuit bottom to the skirt panels on the side without snap tape, then attach the panels to the skirt as I normally do.

It still looks very risque from afar, but I feel more safe and covered than wearing the strapless thongs. Hopefully I won't get harassed at troops anymore.

Sorry to butt in here as a man, but wouldn't you get away with simple flesh colored panties?
I keep thinking when I read that underwear is attached to the skirt, if the skirt fails, everything fails.
Or another idea, get that "invisible" plastic for bras that hide the shoulderstraps, and fix that on a pair of panties on the side?

Sounds like a great idea, but most underwear/lingerie companies think there is only one shade of "flesh color", and I rarely fall in that category. Besides some underwear peeks through the backsides, and Even though that falls under the costuming guidelines of some events, it seems as equally offensive for some convention-goers. I went that route in the beginning of my slave Leia journey.

I actually was working on that, but sadly, those elastic straps are not very flexible as regular straps, they cling and they have to be readjusted as much, if not more, than regular panty straps.

I am talking from personal experience and in no way I'm trying to debunk your arguments, because they're pretty good.

Don't worry, I'm an avid mythbusters fan, I like debunking :p

In the end, it's all about personal preference. Some people like screen-accuracy, some people like safety and comfort. I'm trying to find the happy medium between both.
