Am most worried about the WIG!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I can send you measurements when I get home from work tonight.

And my advice for the hair, just take your time. I have extensions that I use and they work quite well. And I use lots of bobby pins.

As you're a judge, maybe you can answer:
for the belt: is black acceptable vice the dark olive?
Trouble finding the webbing...

Unfortunately, we do only accept olive colored webbing. I can recommend my favorite webbing store though: http://www.strapworks.com/Flat_Nylon_s/61.htm Smile

looked at the Madine vest, looks like we need to add the yoke. I also have a shirt pattern with yoke that I may look at.

I found webbing at the army surplus store. If you have one in your area, I'd try there.

Laura:

Here are photos/measurements of mine. Remember the size of the pockets is related to the size of your sleeve.

Thanks Beth! I contacted the seamstress who made my shirt. She's going to remake the pockets for me next week.

I'm still on the look-out for a good gray fabric for the vest though. I tried to dye the twill fabric I found; it didn't take the dye consistently. Splotchy is not the look I was going for. Any recommendations for a nice gray medium weight fabric?

Was your twill the all cotton (I think at Joanns its called wrinklease) or the other bottomweight twill they have which is a cotton/poly blend. The cotton/poly blend will need a polyester dye, a regular dye for cottons will come out splotchy.

I made my vest out of a cotton quilting fabric and underlined it in muslin to give it weight.

For my belt, I have the required slider in front and a large parachute buckle in the back which is hidden by a pouch.

The fabric was labeled as 100% cotton twill. I got it from Hobby Lobby. Probably operator error on my part, since I've never dyed anything before. Embarassed I did find some suitable gray today. It's a bit thinner than the twill, but I think it will do fine. I was thinking about how to do the belt; thanks for the parachute buckle idea. Sounds perfect.

Vest should be finished this week. Progress has been made on the blaster.

Still need to attach the squares on the main body of the blaster, as well as the knob on the rear sight - right side. Also the very front of the barrel needs the first four rings to be filled in. Then onto painting. For a less then $10 investment, I think it's looking pretty good though.

Still trying to figure out the hair. I have too much hair to put under a wig, so I'm trying to use it for at least part of the braiding.

I divided my hair into 4 sections. Braided all four and then made the middle two sections into buns. Then looped the other two braids under the first bun then across and around the other bun. Then did the same with the other side. I know there are plenty of random bits of hair sticking out and I didn't work in the braids across the top of my head yet, but am I going in the right direction?

Thanks![/img]

I'd say you seem to have caught the idea of it.

You've got the right idea. It took me a few weeks of experimenting to be able to do the hair consistently.

Update: Shirt & vest are done. Pants just need the elastic on the bottom shortened so they don't ride up at my knees when I put my boots on.

The back is straight across, it's just pushed out in the picture.

Blaster is finished. I'm really happy with how it came out. It's very lightweight, but pretty sturdy. I'm hopeful it will hold up well.

Waiting for the rank badge and wrist communicator to arrive. Starting to feel like this will really happen! woo hoo
