Quote: | A good friend of ours is in the hospital at Vanderbilt. We are putting a group together to visit her as a surprise. While setting this up, we have been asked if we could also visit the Pallative Care unit in the hospital and maybe other patients. This would be on Tuesday night, March 10 at 6pm.

Event: Vaderbilt Hospital Visit
Venue: Vaderbilt Palliative Wing
Venue address: Address to come.
Event Time: 3/10/2015 - 6pm-?
Requested characters: Recognizable only. They didn't define this but i'd say its safe to say avoid the obscure stuff stick to the most widely known stuff to the public. TK's, Jedi who aren't too exotic. Face characters etc.
Roster: (Limit of 6 total characters)
501st
Darth Vader - Joseph
TK - Andy
TK - Robbie
(Tentative) TD - Ed
(Tentative) TD - Jon
Rebel Legion
X-Wing Pilot - Raychel
Luke Skywalker - Don
Hey guys so here’s the deal. This is another invite from the Cosplay Collective, the group from Facebook that was gracious enough to include us on the Centennial Children’s hospital visit. This is a visit to the adult hospital not the children’s hospital. It was initially being set up just as a visit for a close friend of theirs. But in their dealings with Vanderbilt it has turned into a surpass visit for there friend as well as an authorized and observed visit to the Palliative Care Wing of the hospital as well. palliative care as I understand it is for serious injuries but revolves also about improving the quality of life and reducing stress of the injured not just a focus on treating the injury alone.
What does this mean? Yes we’ll ostensibly be visiting adults who need all the help they can get emotionally. But also look at it this way we’re inside the sister hospital of the children’s hospital with their people observing us as a sort of unofficial auction in a way. If we bring the right materials to share with the right people it might place on in the right peoples radar. and open some doors to children’s hospital visits possibly in the future.
What do they need from us? They are asking for recognizable characters only. They are also asking that we limit it to recognizable characters or character types. And finally that we cap our attendance at 6 characters. Unfortunately this will exclude some costume types and of course the short notice and the limit cap to our involvement will also make it a bit less fair for all this time. I truly apologize for that but I’m trying to give them what they want out of what we can offer. In hopes that future events will be able to be larger and more inclusive. Please all I ask is that if you feel left out this time first let me know, don’t harbor that. Second try to be a little forgiving I didn’t make these rules and I’m not trying to ice any of one of you out of a great opportunity to give back. On the contrary i hope this opens things up to future opportunities for all of us.
To that end I was thinking maybe a pair of stormtroopers to join me as Darth Vader? And on the Rebel side to keep it glanced a few pilots or recognizable face characters. In the end it’ll be also recall who can make it on a weeknight.
I was told it was okay to post this while we wait for the official invite forms to reach us. I'm already asking most of the big questions regarding blasters, lightsabers, allergy issues etc. But if you have any other questions please post up I'll do my best to get them answered.

Thank you for coordinating this Joe! Sign me up for either Anakin, Luke, pilot or RFT. Luke may be the most easily recognizable, just let me know. _________________

The three 501st slots have been filled with two back ups so far.
We have one left here if anyone is both interested and able to make tis weeknight event. Remember they're asking for easily recognizable characters. Another pilot would be great a Leia or other popular face character or even a generic Jedi would probably work, but I could check about something like an R2 unit since we've got a sort of OT thing going on here. Technically my Vader is from ROTS, but any Vader is just Darth Vader to the common crowd.
Official requests should be coming in. Again if you have any questions please feel free to pm me or post of here. I'll do my best to answers them. |

Heads up I've passed this event organization off to Raychel for the RL side and Cameron for the 501s side of things. And as of this point I may have to drop out but i won't know till possibly this weekend. It's a work thing. They're forcing some overtime soon. |

Parking: Central Garage at 2120 Dixie Place. Take the walk way over to The Vanderbilt Clinic. The cafeteria is located on the 2nd floor of the clinic and there are signs directing you there. The best way to enter the garage is by traveling down 21st Ave and turning onto Pierce Ave.
ParkingMap:
PrintableParkingMap:
http://www.vanderbilt.edu/traffic_parking/maps/TPmap-Mapside2014.pdf
Arrival Time: Please arrive promptly at 6pm, no later. Please allow yourself plenty of time to park, unload and walk to the meeting place in the cafeteria.
We will be escorted to the 9th floor of the main hospital to change into costume. Then, we will go to the critical care tower on the 10th floor to visit a patient. Then, we will be escorted to the palliative care unit in the roundwing (located in Medical Center North). We will visit patients per the direction of the nurse manager of that unit. You will not have to walk up any stairs.
If at any time you are stopped by security or anyone, give them Nancy Arch. Her number is 615-415-9134(cell) 615-322-4298(office)
If you get lost on your way to the cafeteria or in the garage, please call Raychel at 615-260-6689 and she will come and meet you. _________________ Stay on Target |

Had a great time. It was good to see some smiles from patients who are very sick and not feeling well. Thank you Joe for connecting us and helping to coordinate. You are a rockstar. Here are a few photos for those not on fb:
