There are several makers and several shades for the jacket out there. not all of the jackets necesarily match the pants, since its all different fabric lots, and everything is mail order.

Propper makes cotton twill bdu blouse and pants in my size, color is called Khaki

matching pants

Rothco has a BDU in what they now call Coyote

all the others I have found are the newer ACU style with a completely different top pocket layout.

I believe either company is fine as long as you buy the jacket and pants as a set. This will keep continuity with the two pieces for a cohesive look.

Thanks Paul

that is the intent but after reading reviews on both, its clear that the fabric lots are completely different and they dont necessarily match when received.

for me it will come down to which one fits, since only certain colors are available in my size. Hopefully I can catch a sale and get them at a decent price and they both match.

Screen used is not an exact match between coat and pants:

Mac, you're right about that. The jacket and pants don't have to be an exact match; just look right together, i.e. same fabric, similar shade-either could be darker or lighter than other.

I know I'm a few days late to the discussion, but when I saw the links in the first post I got the feeling you're recommending people to buy BDU pants and then remove the cargo pockets and reinforced knees, just because you're likely to get a similar color buying as a set.

In my officer build I just found a pair of dress pants that were the same color as the jacket. I think rummaging at the second-hand store would be easier (and cheaper) for most people than doing the extra alterations, and khaki colors are common.

Just giving my point of view for those who may have had similar thoughts.

I recently saw the "coyote" color at a local surplus store and I personally think it is too dark.

going back to Sam's point of shopping thrift stores, i find (and I shop a LOT of thrift stores) that you can find a lot of variety below waist size 30 and shirt size L. Beyond that you quickly run out of options, at least here. I havent been able to actually buy anything usable from a thrift shop for about three years, I keep hitting them, and coming up empty.
