Hey everybody, I was just playing around with some 3D modeling and decided to take a crack at the new TFA pilots' chest boxes. Just wanted to see what you all thought of my progress so far.

This is what I had initially, mostly just eyeballing things.

Then I took a look at a wireframe view over an image of Poe. Unfortunately the best head on shot we have isn't super high resolution, but It gave me a decent idea of what dimensions needed to be adjusted. Now, I have this:

And one more where I tried to line things up from a slightly different angle.

I'm sure it's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with what I have so far. Any thoughts or areas for improvement? Smile

Thanks, everybody! I'm glad you seem to like it. I've never done any molding or casting since most of the things I make are one-offs for my personal collection, but I'd definitely make it available other ways. If Blair can do a Pepakura file as he suggested, that's one option. I may even take a crack at making some flat patterns myself. I could also probably put up an stl version somewhere if anybody wants it for 3d printing.

If you're able to do it and share with everyone here, I'd be happy to! Smile I don't know a lot about pep myself. Is there a particular file type that you would need it saved as?

I was planning to make these as I already offer resin cast X-wing chest boxes. Do you mind if I use your dimensions?

Looks like that I did not get notification from this thread ...

Yes, I am really willing to unfold this 3d model in pepakura. No special files are need, pepakura designer can work with following:

Metasequoia (mqo)
(Recommended: Highest compatibility, Free version, MetasequoiaLE R3.0, is available.)
Wavefront (obj)
AutoCAD 3D (dxf)
3DS Max (3ds)
Lightwave (lwo)
Binary/ASCII STL (stl)
Google Earth4 (kml, kmz)
Collada (dae)

( the best ones could be .3ds or .stl )

In which format you have this file available? Smile

Like everyone else I would love to get my hands on one if you ever decided to re-produce it.

Great job, looks accurate.

I had a crack at this today also. Somebody directed me to this post, so I though I would share. I have drawn it so that it can be 3D printed in parts, or as a whole. The central 'black' peice can be hollow and removable to allow for batteries and a green LED.
