Hello,

A detailed break down of the TFA X-Wing Pilot costume (and the variants) is vital for the LCJs to judge costume applications and for us to create costume standards. They would probably help folks create fantastic costumes too!

Is there enough reference pictures, information, and enough known to create the break down? Does this exist already? If so, please share this here.

Or if you have this information, please share it here so we can start getting some fantastic TFA X-Wing pilot costumes added to the Legion's ranks.

Thanks.

Oh god yes, I have actually been working on this for some time but I suck at posting pics and what not online. The visual dictionary as well as some other sources have really helped me. I will try and figure out how to upload some of the information I have found so far. But I have confirmed a few things.

Fabric for flight suite is most definitely a 1000D Cordura Deep Orange color
Fabric for the vest is a thermal skin material (more of a rubber-isa than a fabric)

The boots for most of the male pilots (not Poe) are Servus overboots.
http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/servus-mens-supersize-5-buckle-rubber-overboot

There is tons more info but I need to look into how to post the pics with it.

This pocket has ripstop material on it:

I believe Ponte's harness is dead on, (HE is also using materials used in the screen used costumes)

I believe Jess is wearing the same type boot as Poe.

Also, on the flak vest, the bottom strap that wraps around the body isn't the same fabric as the rest of the vest. It's a wide twill tape... possibly two regular widths stitched together.

The twill design is really obvious on the life-sized Poe standee.

There's definitely more than enough references at this point and a lot of is it relatively easy to get already. The basic checklist looks like this:

Reddish orange suit, can either be made from scratch or two off the rack suits altered, we also have a good pattern for this (main area of uncertainty is the weird pocket within a pocket on the wearer's upper left leg pocket)

White vest, we have a good pattern for this that needs a couple of minor updates

Rectangular chest plate that sits under the chestbox, can be made from metal or plastic

Chestbox, at least two good suppliers off the top of my head

Hose, known off the rack item

Gloves, known off the rack item and at least two vendors reproducing them

Belt, known military surplus item, easy to find webbing, and the custom brackets are available from several makers

Flare belt, flares being made by several makers and belt fabric is easily obtainable

Boots, known off the rack item with a fairly common sole

I have a dropbox with some 3D models (a few not mine) and lot of close up reference pictures for the Jessika Pava outfit currently on display in NY here if that helps at all.

The boots worn by Snap Wexley and Nien Numb are NORCROSS T369 overshoes:

It's 2" white seat belt webbing. At least that's what I used for the Premier Pilots. I have a rough PDF tutorial that was started by Lisa "Jaxxa" and added to by me; it's based on what Sunrider did for the group build.

http://www.greyjedi.me/Sunrider/ResistancePilotTutorial.pdf

Might be less confusing if we stuck to definitive info in this thread and not necessarily what we used in our build. We've learned a lot since then. Based on the info that we've gotten since making ours, I'm inclined to agree that the white strap is a twill tape or something like it, the weave is really visible.

The vest pattern also needs to be updated as it's become clear that the lower half of the front is connected to the upper half under the collar, not two separate pieces connected by a second nylon strap. This pic shows the edge of the fabric angling upward and the weave on the strap.

Does anyone know when the comity will be releasing the standards for Poe's costume? Want to make sure I'm consistent... especially when it comes to the jumpsuit colour.

The standards are being developed now from multiple versions submitted from multiple bases.

Please keep in mind that relying too much on the Visual Dictionary can be misleading. Prior images in other books have contained images from photoshopped composites and pre-production photos that have contained obvious errors.

Which book would you say is safe?

I just want to post this to help with the color and fabric debate, I have a friend who works in Hollywood Costuming ad he has confirmed the color and material to a sample he has from screen used costumes and what we have sent him.

Here is the fabric we have picked up, The very bottom fabric is the one that matches the screen used stuff before weathered best. He has stated that without any doubt it is the closest match he has seen after telling me what to go look for to start out with. One of our local seamstresses picked out these fabrics samples and he is not confirmed it.

Here is our closeup shot I have of the fabric, however the lighting is not as great and the white balance is questionable, however I can tell you the fabric type is a dead on match and the sample fabric that I have had my friend match to the original screen used fabric is a dead ringer.

I found a UK supplier on 1000 cordura, their orange looks much lighter than the above, is it just the lighting on the photo? hesitant to order but seems to be the only supplier i can find in UK
