Hello all!

So excited to be starting my first costume that will be made all in NY and my first with Echo base. I'm going to make Rey, because 1) kids will know who she is. 2) Her costume looks AWESOME 3) NEW MOVIE (hehe).

As much as I would love to completely imitate the movie with fabrics and such, that is not possible with the funds I have, so I'm going the slightly cheaper way, but still trying to get the best look I can with them. I will also be playing with destressing and dirty the outfit, as it is not clean and shiny Smile .

Really looking forward to this.

Welcome! We just approved our first Rey (based on the pics from Vanity Fair). There are some good discovery threads out there, so should be fun.

Progress! I have the top, pants, and tabbard thingies all machine sewn together! Now I just have to hand sew the edges and the basic parts are done.

My next big challenge is figuring out how to make that staff. I'm not quite sure how do it. I found one place selling the staff, but it was only 20 bucks and it's from a costume shop with no information about diminsions, so I don't know if it's kid sized or adult sized. So I'm nervous about ordering from them. Sadly, making hard props is not something I excell at. If it's fabric, I'm all over it and have no problems with it, but as soon as you through metel or plastic into the mix, I get stuck pretty quick.

Any thoughts or tips?

Think this is the same staff that you are looking at but on a different site: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Force-Awakens-Staff/dp/B00U640K5A

Says its 4ft long and 4 inches in diameter, so it probably wouldn't be tall enough.

Those dimensions are for the shipping box. I found the actual specs:

Dimensions: 53" x 2" x 2"

So just under 4-1/2 feet long. This one is child's size.

Not bad on details.

I would almost buy one, then replace the part that is wrapped, with a longer piece of PVC, then wrap that.

Have you seen the pictures of the Episode 7 exhibit that was at Celebration Anaheim in April? Not only did they have the costume on display but they had the listing of materials used to make everything.

I think they would be extremely helpful to you.

Hmm, I hadn't considered that. With the time I have and the skills and tools currently availbe to me, that might be the way to go. My concern then would be that after you lengthen the middle, that the whole staff would be kinda thin and not have the proper mass for an adult. It's still a great idea, though Smile

I have looked at those pictures and there are some really good ones. My problem is not having alot of money to get spot on parts or a lot of time to make the right things. That is kinda my struggle right now. And I don't really know where to find the parts I would need.

I have the soft pieces to a point that I feel is possibly aceptable. I will be sending off pictures tonight, hopefully.

Right now, I'm having trouble with hair. I naturally have very long and thick hair, perfect for Leia. I can pull off any of Leia's looks without any problem, but I have a feeling that Rey doesn't have half the hair Leia has. I am having SO much trouble with the hair style and part of me feels like it's just because I have too much hair. That and I have no idea HOW they got her hair to do that.
