Location: Mater Dei School, Camden

Time: 10:30 – 14:30

Weather: Sunny, 17C -30C

Tython Base: Sarah (Sarah1968) – Chewbacca

Southern Cross Garrison: Andrew P. (andylah) – TK; Craig (Craig225) – TK

Wrangler: Naomi (aka Mrs Craig225)

Our trooping-day kicked off around 10:30 in relatively good trooping weather as we picked a sunny spot a short walk from our indoor change area. Sez’s Chewie proved an imposing drawcard as always, although a couple of the kids less familiar with our favourite Wookie didn’t quite know what to make of her, asking if she was alternatively a monkey / dog / monster. Andy and myself stood guard either side of Sez, giving welcoming hand-waves and high-fives to the passing crowds. Needless to say there was abundance of photos with Fair patrons. Given that the Fair was a fund-raising day for Mater Dei School, we also had a volunteer donation-bucket shaker along with us to take a collection - a job that Naomi soon took over for the remainder of the day.

Sometime after midday we retired to our change area for a short and well-earned refreshment break before Sez – now sans Chewie – escorted Andy and myself around the Fair grounds for more photo opportunities among the growing crowd, the stalls and attractions. After a lap around the grounds we retired for a more substantial rest and a feed before venturing back out.

Initially returning to our early-morning photo-spot, it wasn’t long before the sun came back with a vengeance and we moved to the shade of a large pine for even more photos, smiles, high-fives and hugs. The tree canopy proved to be both cooling and a rather appropriate backdrop for our Wookie. Andy and I both commented later that we’d never felt sun so hot on our gloves – burning hands is certainly one thing I’ve not experienced before on a troop, so I can’t imagine how Sez must have been fairing before we moved out of the by then 30C heat. By about 14:30 it was time to de-kit, return our our weighty donation bucket and sit back with a well earned coffee and reflect on the day.

Thankfully the crying-child count for the day remained in single figures, surpassed by a factor of about one-billion by the beaming smile, high-five and hug count. The special needs kids at Mater Dei, their families, carers and supporters are truly a beautiful group and the organisers are always very grateful happy to have us there. My personal thanks goes out to Sez and Andy for making the troop, to Josh for keeping it on the SCG radar, and to my wife Naomi for stepping up to wrangle for Sez (we'll make her One Of Us yet).

Mission status: a fun and heart-warming day was had by all.

TK-6752, over and out.

Hmmm. Not sure about that.

Sorry Andy, you're too tall.

Na na na na na na na na....

I hear tell that our very own Darrell (Sgt_HATRED) made the 'hard' parts for this Batgirl costume. Great work there!

I think Andy would have liked to take the DeLorean home...

... but Camden LAC where on hand to make sure that didn't happen.

With the Medieval Archery Society, one of whom tells me they are putting a Mandalorian together.

Chewbacca of Loxley

Meanwhile back on Kashyyyk.

Fantastic pics. I adore the one with the archery club. Chewy meets Robin Hood. GOLD!
