I found this in People magazine. Thought it might help with this thread. I am looking to make this costume as well. _________________ Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter |

The top corner of the the rectangle where the lower cutout begins- dart, seam? It looks like there might be something on an angle going up towards the shoulder? I'm trying to figure out if there are any seams other than the middle front one. A friend and I were looking at some of the pictures, and she thought that each side might be one piece with a seam just below the back shoulder? It would help get the neck up that far w/o a separate collar piece? _________________ Legion Costuming Judge: Officers, Rebel Supporters

The seams we have been able to confirm are: center seams, side seams, shoulder seams.
So unless an exhibition shows us differently those are the seams that should be there. _________________

Cool thanks! Where are you placing the shoulder seams? I'm thinking they are slightly behind the shoulder top?
On another note, I was talking about this dress with a professional (for the theater) costumer friend, and she had a really neat suggestion. Dart theory lets you move the dart anywhere as long as it still points to the boob. Which means there could be a dart without there being a dart- at the top of the rectangle cut in the center. It would explain why the grain appears to change direction as well. Easier to explain with visuals- she actually made all these paper mocks ups to show me. _________________ Legion Costuming Judge: Officers, Rebel Supporters

The shoulder seam is pretty much right on top of the shoulder.

The first have a center seam, but both have extra seams that would have to be 'edited' out, so to speak. _________________

Yes! I noticed that - i like the general shape of the pattern with the center seam. In the pattern sketches it seems to be more of a flared bottom, but in the actual garmet photos it's not. In the *few* actual on-screen seconds, it looks like the dress may have some body to it but the overlay is only slightly more stiff. It still blow in the wind in the very last shot.
Thanks Lora! |

This clarifies the colors involved and the fabrics.. When you look at the over exposed photo the color looks all wrong but when you read the description noted it states the colors and fabrics. Blue teal.
Edit Dec 2017.. I put the photo back up as photo bucket went wacko.

Well, there we have it. They used a silk/linen mix for the overdress and pure silk for the underdress. I wouldn't be surprised if both are dye with the exact same dye, only the fabrics took the dye in slightly different ways. _________________

I purchased the dress fabric after hunting around for a long time and then spent nearly another year hunting for the linen blend to do the tunic. Now I can proceed to make the tunic. The dress fabric is in the background and the lined is on the roll.
Fabrics I am using.
I previously posted the article on the true colors of the dress. I had posted here before but the photo bucket debacle wiped it out so I posted it again.

For the dress it looks as if those pattern above would work but do we need to eliminate the princess seams in the front that define the bust? It is hard to tell if the dress has no other than middle front and side seams. _________________ I am not the Jedi I should be.
