One thing to remember is that Cordura is not a particular fabric, it's a brand name. While we're confident that the fabric was a Cordura-style woven nylon, it may not have actually been from that brand.

I just want to post this to help with the color and fabric debate, I have a friend who works in Hollywood Costuming ad he has confirmed the color and material to a sample he has from screen used costumes and what we have sent him.

Here is the fabric we have picked up, The very bottom fabric is the one that matches the screen used stuff before weathered best. He has stated that without any doubt it is the closest match he has seen after telling me what to go look for to start out with. One of our local seamstresses picked out these fabrics samples and he is not confirmed it.

Here is our closeup shot I have of the fabric, however the lighting is not as great and the white balance is questionable, however I can tell you the fabric type is a dead on match and the sample fabric that I have had my friend match to the original screen used fabric is a dead ringer.

Many racing suites are made with either Cordura or Nomex. The texture of the fabric is most definitely not nomex. Everything I have found points to Cordura, like I said, I have a friend who works in Hollywood costuming and he swairs its it but was saying likely it started out as an off the shelf racing suite. The chaps in the design suggest that as well.

Does anyone know what colour are his sleeve ends?
I have a feeling that they are a Rib Knit fabric but in some pictures they are black and in some brown.

That's a good point. I am waiting for several samples from UK suppliers, including Cordura, stretch denim, poplin, cotton twill and tula cotton. Once I've got them I will post some photos.

Any updates on those samples mate?

I'm getting close to ordering some generic ballistic nylon in white from a UK supplier and trying to find a decent dye match

Got my fabric yesterday and like everyone is saying, this will be hot to wear but it looks dead on. I'll be using the above fabric and hopefully have a jumpsuit soon.

You can get a sample of this fabric and it's cheap.
Here is the link:

The colour is: Orange.com

Looks amazing.
You can also get samples for any fabric they might have online.

Sadly no UK suppliers stock the Orange.com Cordura, and ordering 10 metres of fabric and shipping it from USA/Canada would be a nightmare. I'm kinda confused as i have seen a number of UK people ordering other TFA x wing items elsewhere on the forums but no one seems to have said where they're getting their flightsuit fabric from Crying or Very sad

Frustrating right!
I am sending a few samples out to the UK but if you can't even order it then there is no point. I know for sure that this fabric is accurate but it's very hot and uncomfortable to wear. Plus hard to get I guess. If anyone has an alternative option let me know.

Can anyone speak to when the requirements will be released? Are we looking at a few weeks? 6 months?

We've got about 14 people together to build these costumes and we are making good progress, but we're getting held up on certain items until we know what's required. We can't even get started on the jumpsuits until we know which fabrics are acceptable.

Cheers!

I am working with Alex that showed the fabric samples above. Please, if you get the cordura wash it a bunch of times and use fabric softener. I plan on washing it a bunch more once its done to wear it down, it moves much better after washing.

That said its a really heavy fabric but I figure after some wear and some washes it will look like it does in the movies.

I am constructing it right now in the 1000D Corudura and will get some pictures up. Still wondering if we have a definitive on the ribbed fabric because otherwise I have started to hand make it for the arms as the elastic just doesn't meet what I feel it should look like.

Hey everyone!!!
I found an article about the fabric that was used in the movie.
They say that "the Rebel fabrics were rumpled woolens, felted wool, cotton duck and twill, all very softly tailored."
Does this mean that the 1000 Denier (1000D) Coated CORDURA® Nylon Fabric is wrong?

It wouldn't surprise me. I expect it's cotton duck, but until someone actually gets their hands on one of the jump suits to actually feel the fabric, maybe get a snip of fabric from a seam allowance and burn test it, we won't know.
