We went to JoAnns to check out the Solar Cherry fabric and came across this sample in the Outdoor Fabric section. The color, weave and sheen seem to be pretty accurate. Thoughts?

Is there anyone making the pistol holster?

That's what the Mos Espa pilots are using. Check out the thread with the pics of us. WE think it looks pretty great.

This is not the Solar Cherry. We went to JoAnns to look at the Solar Cherry and came across this fabric. It's by Bella Dura and is called Borderline Coral. It runs $59.99/yard. 😬 Looks pretty good in person.

Does anyone have a diagram of the flight suit layout or pattern they'd be willing to share? I'm having trouble finding someone to make this here without more information.

The solar cherry fabric looks awesome. How many yards does a flight suit take?

yea if we could get an approved pattern so that we can have the costume for episode 8 that would be nice.
Seriously We have everything but the flak vest and the flight suit.

Has anyone tried the redkapp coverall for a base? There is a cotton poly blend orange with a nice weave that looks like it could serve as a good base and then a lot of the work is done. Will need to remove some stitches and pockets and add other details and dye it. Any thoughts?

Also has anyone looked at the inflatable PFD? The design of the top portion of the flack vest has the look of the PFD with foam rectangles sewn into it.

Watching this thread I have noticed that there hasnt been an approved CRL for the costume. Here is whats available to buy right now:
1. the boots
2. the gloves
3. the helmet
4. the belt and harness
5. the blaster with holster
7. the flares

the only thing that appears to be missing is the flight suit and the flak vest. With all the resistance pilots that are popping up is it wrong for me to say that maybe we should create a the best CRL that we can right now and then update as new information is coming? I'm just saying because I have a seamstress that can make this for me as soon as I get the pattern for the flight suit and the flak vest. I would hate to wait til episode 9 to be able to wear the costume?

I still only have sketches and pattern pieces, kinda hard to lay out and take pics of. I have been thinking I need to do a tutorial, seems like lots of folks out there need something. Honestly, I stared long & hard at all the photos (that have been posted in various threads) of the Times Square exhibit last Nov-Dec, and all the various screen caps and studio pics, and came up with what I believe to be an accurate pattern. Pocket placement was the trickiest part.

Us "real man sizes" (about 6', 46-50" chest/waist) in Massiff Squadron ended up using about 6 yards each for our suits.

The Solar Cherry really is your best bet so far, IMO.... it has the look of Cordura, but is lightweight enough that it is still fairly comfy to wear. The color holds up too.... just like in the movie, the Solar Cherry has a more red cast in the outdoors, and enough orange in it to look right otherwise.

In past threads here & elsewhere, I think most of us who sew have agreed that it would be easier to make a TFA suit from scratch versus convert something like a Redkap. You'd have to almost completely rip a coverall apart in order to sew in the leg "chaps" and ribbing down the arms, as well as remove the reinforcing strip around the waist. Then you'll have to dye the orange with red to get the color right. And technically, the fabric is the wrong weave and type.... might as well get something more correct like Solar Cherry and be done with it, with only the orange ribbing for arms & collar to dye the right color.
