Ellicott City was hit REALLY hard by storms and flash floods on July 30th. By now, you’ve probably seen the photos, videos, and articles. It was devastating and deadly.

Old Line has done several troops on Main Street and many of us are from or live in the area. So the command staff has worked up ways of giving back.
This Sunday, August 7th, we are forming a team of Old Line members/family/friends to help with some of the clean-up on or near Main Street. See below for the details.

In addition to this, a fundraising patch will soon be available with 100% of these funds going back into Ellicott City to help the store owners and townspeople in rebuilding this beautiful town. Stay tuned for info on that.

Please post up if you intend to join us this Sunday

Max 20 to 30 OLG Volunteers

When:
Sunday, August 7th
9:00am (Beat the heat!)

Where:
Meet up in Parking Lot F Ellicott Mills Dr & Fels Lane
Working around Upper Main Street

Bring:
Heavy duty gloves and rubber boots
Wear a RL/Terrapin Base shirt if you can (SW shirt if you don’t have an RL/TB shirt)
Water, Lunch/noms

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All water down there is considered contaminated and crumbling houses may have exposed asbestos. Use caution and good judgement.

It is HIGHLY recommended that everyone be up to date Hepatitis and Tetanus shots.

Always wear work gloves when handling contaminated equipment and debris. It is recommended that you wear latex gloves under the work gloves. The volunteer HQ will provide.

Bring an extra pair of shoes and garbage bags to sit on for the ride home.

Wear long pants despite the heat and work boots or tough rubber boots. Wear clothes you wouldn't mind ruining (we'll take off the RL shirts before working.)

Regarding the Legion shirts, we're going to have take a phot with the shirts of possoble, but bring a shirt you don't minD getting gross for actually working.

Details for tomorrow.

We are attached to Barry Plunkett's Centennial Relief group. I'll provide Barry with our names later today. This may end up being a long term thing so everyone who wantsto help but can't tomorrow, stay tuned.

Info about getting there and what to do provided by Barry.
Just refer to these guidelines:
1. Try to arrive around 9 or 10. Most of the work gets done between 9 AM and 4 PM.
2. Park at the intersection of Rodgers Ave. and Frederick Road. Rodgers has wide shoulders. If no spaces are available, check St. Peter's Episcopal Church or Bonnybridge Place.
3. Wear long pants, work or hiking boots, and work gloves.
4. Ensure everyone in your group has read over the safety guidelines I posted in 2 separate parts earlier in this group.
5. Ensure everyone in your group understands that abiding by these safety guidelines does not guarantee health or wellness. The air is potentially toxic. The dust, mud, and water are likely contaminated. This is dangerous work. The risks can be combated, but not altogether eliminated.
6. If you are stopped by the officer on duty at the blockade at the Rodgers-Frederick intersection, explain that you are working with Centennial Relief and that you were instructed to proceed to the relief tents at 8572 Main St. for instructions to work on specifics projects on behalf of the residents.
7. Walk down the road until you see a cluster of red, white, and blue tents on the right side of the road. This is volunteer HQ.
8. Sign in on a clipboard. Give your name, address, and phone number. Hours are being logged to offset the state's reimbursement of FEMA.
9. Consult the equipment checklists posted around the main tent and pick up all equipment you need (N95 respirators, work gloves or rubber gloves with latex gloves beneath, work goggles, and white coveralls for basements)
10. Introduce yourselves to the residents and other volunteers standing around and ask them for assignments. If no one can provide you with work, make sure you speak with Gayle. (At 10 am and 6 pm there will be ice deliveries that may need to be wheeled to the relief tents from the intersection)
11. Work, stay well hydrated, and apply sunscreen regularly.
12. Sign out.
13. Clean yourselves according to previously posted guidelines.
