When I first put it together I didn't size it down and I was swimming in it! Lol

So, I am going to try my hand at making my own vest using this tutorial. It's my first time swing anything so I will probably have loads of questions.

The tutorial seems well structured, but can anyone who has made the vest explain how you put the main pieces, such as the front and back parts and the mae west, together? Thanks in advance.

Hi! You just stitch them together where they meet. Keep your seams to the inside of the vest. The Mae West is a bit trickier, you need to pin it all along the seam and sew it kinda inside out. I can take some pictures if you like.

Edit: This picture sort of shows some of the pieces connected. The flaps sticking out will get sewn onto the bottom of the front vest pieces.

I’m about to attempt this behemoth. What’s the best advice you guys have found over the years making this?

So I ran into a dilemma. While adding the foam strips to the back piece, I can only add 9, not 10. I checked the standard and it doesn’t mention it has to be 10 (only the 7 and 2 on the front are mentioned specifically). Am I good to go, or do I need to cut the foam out and try again? Thanks!

Is it because adding another rib would make the vest too long for you? If that's the case, as long as it fits you, you should be alright. I don't think that one rib is going to make a lot of difference for judging.

Hey, it was because I was out of room on the fabric. I got ahold of Phil on the FB group and come to find out, instead of the 3/8” gap between ribbed pieces it was suppose to be 1/4”. Now all 10 pieces fit in the back of the vest.
