Comments: We would like Star Wars costume characters to be present during our first three opening nights of Rogue One at the Udvar-Hazy Center's Airbus IMAX Theater. Specifically we would want a Darth Vader and some storm troopers. We had them present last year and it was a huge hit. We'd like the characters to walk around and entertain visitors as they wait in line to see the movie.

There are also events at the DC museum- there is a tab on the spreadsheet to sign up to troop there with Terrapin Base and OLG.

Update

DC location Thursday night only Dec 15, 2016
The museum will have a private event in the evening. So they are asking for a max of 5-8 characters only. Due to the event they are only showing a midnight showing. They want troopers to troop from 10:45pm-11:30pm, then you'll get seats for the midnight showing and an extra ticket. You'll be outside most of this troop.

With the exception of Thursday in DC, they want to limit it to a max of 20 troopers per night. If you've decided to move around, please make sure you update the spreadsheet to reflect this.

Spreading the wealth. If you're schedule allows we are sort of bare Saturday evening in DC.

So the theater is giving us 2 tickets each time we troop to use at later showings.

Having an idea of the show times would help, have they released that information for the DC location yet? It is not on their website as of 11/22

Make sure you sign up for the correct location, Chantilly is the first tab, DC is the second tab.

DC-Thursday night
The private event got canceled. So there will be movie times for Thursday being announced later today or tomorrow.

Tickets
Option 1- One Ticket
To be used the night you volunteer. Please update the spreadsheet what time you'd like to see the movie.
Option 2-Two Tickets
For you to use on any future showings.

Our POC is setting aside tickets esp for us. So that's why she wants to know the times you'll be attending so she has them already labeled for you and that in case of any times being sold out we are already taken care of.

Chantilly
She was upset last year about you guys not getting the tickets, so she's working hard to make sure that Chantilly has everything set up for Udvar folks.

Shifts
I'll be updating the spreadsheet. Thursday's shift: 6:00pm-9pm.
Main shifts for Friday/Saturday are 3:30-6:30pm or 6:30pm-9:30pm.
If you're coming in earlier or doing an alternate time, please mark it in one of the time columns.

Blasters
Blasters are allowed -BUT- she said if security gets upset and changes their minds and asks you to put it away do as your asked. Last year Artoo was bomb checked with K9 dogs. So the Museum is about protecting the public, so comply. Don't do any execution shots or pretend to shoot people shots even if asked.

Please keep them in your bin until you are changed. I would even make a suggestion to peace bond your blasters.

Day of Contacts
She will be letting me know by COB Dec 14th who we should be directed to. Each day may have different people, just depends on the staff. I'll update you guys once she lets me know.

Parking
Please include your Plate info!
Udvar-Hazy
She'll double check if we should park in the normal lot or the employee lot. Either way if your car info isn't complete or on there, you may have to pay for parking.

DC
Parking is in between the American Indian and Air & Space. You'll see a little security hut. Let them know your name an

Changing Room
As of right now, she doesn't know where we will be changing at for both locations.
She is trying to find a bigger secured space for us to change at in DC. She is totally aware that the office was too tiny.

Sorry generally when I mean troopers I mean everyone. They aren't restricting costumes to certain types. They welcome everyone

Air & Space Troop
•If parking at the museum, please enter on the 4th and Independence entrance – between American Indian and Air and Space, there is a parking gate there. Pull up and tell them you are here with 501st as a costumer and they will have your name on a list. If there is trouble call Julie Paulson at 202-633-6071 (office) or cell (248-202-8573)
•When you park in the garage, head upstairs to the main floor of the museum and go to the box office. Ask for the manager on duty (most likely George or Dave) You can reach them at 202-633-5987 and 202-633-0227 if you needed. They will direct you to an area where you can change and store your items.
•Once dressed, please feel free to walk around the area where the guests are queued up. If you are trooping after hours- you will need to just stick to the areas of the museum where the lines are forming for the movie. If you are there during museum hours- you can roam a bit more freely, but please stay downstairs.
•If you are getting mobbed- please go back to the box office and let a staff member know so they can help control the crowds.
•If you are thirsty or would like a snack- please ask the theater manager and they will help you get concessions (no alcohol)
•TICKETS: If you requested a specific showtime your ticket will be under your name at the box office- head there and they will print it out for you. If you just asked for 2 tickets to use in the future, a theater manager will hand you your 2 tickets. Please ask for this before you leave!




Udvar-Hazy Troop
•Enter the museum through the main entrance at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway. If you are arriving prior to 4 pm- we will have your name on a list to get you access to the parking lot for free. If you are coming after 4 pm- the lot is open and free.
•The Airbus IMAX Theater is located directly to your right as you enter through the main doors. Please head there and ask to see the theater manager (most likely Natalya or Glenn). You can reach them at 703-572-4179. They will direct you to an area where you can change clothes and store your items.
•Once dressed, please feel free to walk around the area where guests are queued up. There is an upstairs line for tickets and concessions, and then downstairs a long queue will be forming directly in front of the doors. If you are there prior to 5:30 pm, feel free to walk around the main floor of the museum and let people know we have Rogue One opening at the IMAX theater.
•If you are getting mobbed- please go back to the box office and let a staff member know so they can help control the crowds.
