With the new movie there are differences in the classic *[EDIT] Alliance Technical Specialist. They are also seen working on equipment as well as driving the chariots. Some have vests, all have commpads, and only a few have helmets. The suit is pretty weathered. Boots are visible and appear to be RFT style boots, bloused at the top. On top of all of that the belt has what looks like box pleats covering it.

PROPOSED STANDARD:

Alliance Technical Specialists played an important role in the battle against the evil Empire. The technicians ensured that the fighters , droids and equipment were in full working order allowing the rebel pilots to bring the fight to the Empire.

REQUIRED ITEMS

1. Coverall: Accurately constructed tan coverall with mandarin-style collar and pointed tab, rectangular pocket with a flap closure on upper right arm, 2 upper thigh pockets and 4 leg pockets. No visible zippers or snaps. Coverall it is bloused at top of the boots. Movie coveralls were weathered from constant use.
2. Belt: accurately constructed dark khaki, British Khaki, Olive drab or dark tan with a roll pin buckle. Belt should have five mini-flare loops that can be empty or contain mini-flares.
3. Boots: Black or dark brown boots with rounded toe and smooth finish. RFT type boots are acceptable. Coverall is bloused at the top of the boots.
4. Three dimensional Pilot style comm pad in left sleeve with correct movie style colors on buttons.

OPTIONAL ITEMS

1.Helmet: Accurate tech helmet in white or light gray with a matching color comm box on the left side. Comm box shall be accurately scaled to the helmet. Chin cup on helmet is clear or white as seen in original trilogy scenes.
2. Antenna in helmet comm box. Antenna is vertical when worn.
3. Silver mini flares may be worn in belt loops. A mix of empty and filled slots is allowed.
4. Accurately styled dark grey, black/dark blue or brown vest worn by some technicians.

I linked this in the Blue Squadron also.
Belt looks like British PLCE belt turned inside out with the buckle reversed and flare holder sewn on

I agree, looks very similar to TFA pilot belt.

i ordered that belt so I can deconstruct it, make one to fit me, and to post my progress.

I have also edited the name of this proposal so that the classic ANH Tech will not be confused with this new tech.

You shouldn't have to deconstruct this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301358002602

i bought that one. But like ALL military belts I use ( and i use a LOT Of them!) I will have to tear it apart, figure out how it is made, and construct one from scratch to fit me. I have had to do this with every costume I own for the last 8 years.

is there any more input on the content of the Standard proposal?

What are our feelings on the dark vests? We see these on starfighter fuel crews as well as on techs at technical stations (but not the big mission board).

To me the vest looks like a steamlined Hoth vest with a smaller/ slimmer neck roll. It is also possible this is a old flak vest, since it has a set of fasteners on the inside of the right half.
For comparison, here is a vintage Flak vest
https://goo.gl/images/7SwOxz
This is 80s vintage, 70s vintage and earlier had sides ajusted with shoelace like cord.

I watched the movie for the fourth time and found no correlation between boots (jacks/ SpecOps) to the jacket.

i had seen a ocmment that the chest pockets look lower than the ANH pockets.

I lightened up and in one shot reversed the colors on the classic ANH images we have always looked at so we can see them. One R1 character seems to have lower pockets while I am not convinced that the others do. youcan clearly see the curve of the pocket on the chest.

    Is there any further input?

I know the techs arent the most glamorous, but this is what I do in real life so its important to me knowing I have a counterpart doing the same job on cooler machinery, a long time ago......

    Just some information for building:

The new "mini flares" are actually air line hose fittings. Specifically 3/8" ones with a quick-release on one end and a barb fitting on the other.

Available in the us are close:

One's available in the UK are what they used:

On the one's from the UK, notice how the barbs are closer together. Wink

I am interested in building this costume. Is this information at a stage at which I can make it to these standards and be approved, or is it still too tentative?

I would say go ahead and build it.
Just remember to match what you see on screen exactly.

David thank you for that info...I can get those from either McMaster-Carr or Granger.
