So I started with My first costume after many hours of researching.... I want to start with the vest... did the pattern myself and tried them on a regular black cotton fabric to se the result. Happy with the fitting BUT Will have to do some changes on the collar and the curved back seems... the big issue i have is how to creat the shoulderpads!!! I tried different pattern and fillings BUT are not happy with how they turned out... anyone in here with usefull tips or maybe links!?

There are some Resistance Reys with wips in the general jedi forum. I would suggest looking at those. Smile

And see if you can't get this thread moved there instead of being in the tutorial section.

Woawwww so mutch have happened since i decided to start with this!

Where i live there is NO good stores that I can find THE perfect woolfabric I need. So I took the car on a very cold and snowy Swedish winter day and I drove to Stockholm! I started with Sundbybergs texstilcentrum, and realised that I Wouldnt find any coat wool here... so I drove to Solna and to the store "svarta kattens handelshus"! Here I found a great heavyweight coating wool in a nice grey colour and with the right "fiskbensmönster"!! Not to expensive eather! 179kr/m ! I bought what she had left (1,6m) and hopes I wont mess this up!!!!

Unfortunate the leather for the belt I was looking for in the same store was to thick, and they didnt have the tools to make it thinner at the straps... so that was not what I was hoping to find... I will have to pause the work with it until I find a better leatherstore!

However I went back to Sundbyberg and now with the wool fabric in my hands I could easily find a great match for the lining (a grey cotton) Brown fabric (almost like denim BUT in cotton) for the pants and also a créme colored jerseyfabric for the top!!!

Back home I had to remake the pattern of the back of my vest, the size was perfect BUT i didn't like that the curved seems were to far apart.... then after putting almost all pieces (not shoulderpads or armpieces) on My fabric I realised that 1,6m IS enought!! Lol well good for me if I mess up!

I was planing on doing ladderstiching (myrgång) as the pictures shows a similar stitching on the collar seems and the curved seems

BUT then I found this video of stolphålsöm that i found on YouTube....
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E0EwaQc_W1I
I tried it on a piece of linenfabric I bought and I'm not sure if I m pleased with the result... even though I think it will be more noticeable than the ladderstiching....

this is stolphålssömn
this is myrgång

so I would need som advice... I did the ladderstitching at the same time on the same piece on linen to make it more easy to compare... keep in mind though that this linenfabric will not be showing at all on the vest, only the stitching...

Now I would love some input especially from those who already got an approved costume, please advise me on what i'm doing wrong! Or right!

I cannot explane how amazing it would feel to be apart of the Rebel Legion!

Good to hear you found some nice grey wool for your vest. Smile And with a nice herringbone pattern (fiskbensmönster). The price is fair for wool, which for some reason is generally quite expensive in Scandinavia.

Regarding the leather, maybe you can buy it online? I know at least læderiet.dk sells online, but I don't know their shipping prices to Sweden. But it's an option.

Just get a good mock up done of the vest before you cut into your fabric. 1.6 m should be enough for vest and gauntlets, but better to have all the pattern pieces completely ready before you cut into anything. Smile

Hmm, I watched the video, but it looks very specific to embroidery. I'm not sure it would give the right look on the vest. But maybe you could post a picture of it? Myrgång might still be your best choice, but let us see what the stolphålsöm looks like on your test.

Now, get your pictures on a hosting site and then post the links here. Smile Choose IMG for direct showing in the thread.

(And we would love to have you join our Base here in the north). Good luck with it!

Just took a look at your photos. Pattern looks great! I just had to remake mine for commissions, and this looks very much like what I ended up with. Here's a link to my progress on my Rey. I have now made I think 6 different versions of this vest for myself. I learn something new each time. I also have been taking commissions, and with each one I learn something new! If you have ANY questions, let me know!

Without the IMG codes at the end the link will work. Smile

No, you still have IMG codes at the end. IMG codes only work for individual pictures, not albums, and they have to be around the link to work.

The individual links work. I don't know if you can get google drive pics to show up in a thread like this.
