Working on a Senatorial Leia so figured I'd post a WIP thread to check I'm doing things OK.

I've pretty much finished the dress, the only thing I haven't done is add elastic at the waist to hold the blousing in place, and I think it needs a third hook in the neck closure to stop it gaping. Is there anything else that would need modifying?

I've also cut the belt from a leather belt blank:

I have some aluminium and button covers to make the plates.

I've bought these boots which I've seen people link on here:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-PU-Women-Lady-Flat-Slip-On-Mid-Calf-Boots-Girls-Ruched-Biker-Boot-Shoes-/192051357588?varId=491883798021&txnId=1345422766009

And I have the toy Leia blaster to modify.
And that's basically it. Is everything looking OK so far? Is there anything I need to change?

Looking good! I think the side slits have to go higher up.
I think these are the boots I bought too, hope yours will fit you, mine were too small and I had to order another pair!

Hmm I do see what you mean about the slits. I'm not sure if it's just this picture, since they do start just below my knee. I think I'll wait to see where the boots come to and check it relative to that. It's not difficult to change in any case Smile

Hmm, hopefully I'll be OK...I have very small feet and have ordered shoes from China before xD

If they start right below your knee then it's just the pic and you're fine!

Update! So the boots arrived, but they weren't at all like the photo...so I modified them! One of them is done and I still have to work on the other.

I've also finished the belt.

And I've got the toy blaster with seams removed with putty and sprayed black:

Is everything on track still? Is there anything I need to adjust?

This is looking great! The way your dress lays is perfect, great job! With the slits, when submitting maybe make sure to clearly show they are right below the knee. I had trouble with that and had to send extra photos to prove where they were. As long as they can see it you're good!

Did you use the rubies blaster? It looks awesome!

Thanks all!

I put the whole thing on today to do a test run! I'm so happy with how the makeup came out! Very Happy

I've definitely learnt that I need a different approach with the buns - this one was too difficult and would take a long time to get neat enough, plus the wefts I use tangle easily and can't be brushed out again :/ Going to riffle through my wig collection for some better ideas.

I think the dress needs that elastic around the middle to keep the blousing in place, so I'm going to add that next.

Let me know if there's anything else that will need to be fixed for this to be approvable! Smile

It looks like you have done a good job. Smile I'd iron it before taking approval photos and as you said, work a little more on the buns to get them as you want them.

That's an excellent suggestion, thanks, I will definitely be sure to iron it before taking final photos Smile
I'll see how I go with the buns. The first time I tried one it worked much better, but these just weren't cooperating - although I did run out of pins so that didn't help. I'm sure I'll figure something out!

This looks great!!! I found a bun tutorial on YouTube if your working with kanekalon hair. Also! On the WIP photos it looks like your hair is lighter than in the trial photos? If not it must be the lighting! But if it is I was wondering if you used something other than dye to make your hair darker? I'm blonde and I really would prefer to have brown hair when I'm cosplaying as Leia but I am too scared to dye my hair brown! And I'm not a fan of wigs! Lol

But anyway this looks so great! Good luck with your approval!!!

Thanks Smile I did use a tutorial from YouTube which was very good. I think the main problem was that I ran out of pins - this worked much better when I tried with just one bun and the same number of pins. The other issue is that the hair is not the best quality and can't be brushed out, so once it's tangled it's pretty much useless. I'll have to experiment a bit more, I'm sure I'll get something to work Smile

ahh lol...well I hadn't washed my hair in a few days and since I had to stick my fringe down I used a LOT of hair wax, so I think that's what darkened it...I was actually surprised it matched the extensions pretty well, I was expecting to have to dye it.
Otherwise I'd probably use a temporary hair dye, you can get ones that last 6-8 washes and as long as you're dying darker than your hair they work perfectly Smile
