Good catch! I think it is 1.5 but I would say either 1.5 or 2 is acceptable.

Excellent! Thankee!

I started on the boot spats yesterday and I thought I had the sizing right in my second mockup.. until I added the batting. Take 3 today!

I'm getting some assistance on putting screw holes into the 6 solid metal cylinders and the canisters for my bandolier. It's outside my skillset and I don't think I'll be able to dremel through solid metal on the cylinders o.O;; Better to get assistance of someone with a little more expertise in that arena!

So while that's on hold, I worked with scrap fabric and it took three tries to get the main portion of the boot spat measured out. I have one fully quilted and ready to sew up on the bottom. I started number 2 today. Once they're both fully quilted and closed up, then I'll start working on the 'bone' shape that crosses the front of the boot, add the boot disks, velcro and parachute clip then I can call 'em done!

I am also bleeding profusely with this project, so the Armor Gods should be well and appeased. Quilting, thicker fabrics.. yeah.. the pin stabs have been spectacular.

I'm holding off on weathering the fabric until I have the soft goods done. That way I can have some consistency to some of the weathering.

I also picked up my belt blank, dye and burnishing supplies for the leather belt. I need to order up the buckle.

Doing all your weathering in one go sounds like a good idea. Smile

Between Force Friday, onboarding for new job and trooping, I've taken my time on my spats!

Now to resume painting on the boot disks. They have a base coat of silver, but now to tarnish them up.

Back to the airbrush today! Since when silver tarnishes, it's not just black, there's still that dull shine and sometimes a green tinge. So I mixed up flat black, gun metal and nato green paint. I gave the first disk a light spray and wow, ok, I really like the effect. Moving on!

To add some detail back in, I dry brushed flat aluminum with a Q-tip to areas of the disks.

And to bring it all together and mute things down, umber wash! Following Major's advice, I'm taking a lot of these photos with a flash since so many photos of the costume are taken under those conditions.

I also hit the belt with some moisturizing oil in prep for dyeing. I also took some gum tragacanth to the raw edges and back. Then I had to do some repairs to my Leia belt. It needed gum tragacanth, some moisturizing and a plate re-attached. I think Imma take a break. lol

Just started a new job and I've hit a holding pattern on what parts I have in hand!

Greeblies and canisters are secured to the bandolier, I need to place the order for my belt buckle, get my pants commissioned and work with my buddy on the shoulder armor and tanks!

SLOWLY getting back to this project... new job and commute is kicking my backside.

Leather pants have been commissioned.. I am just not comfortable in my skills to sew leather.

Today I was able to take the dremel to my boot disks so I can countersink magnets into them. E6000 is currently curing with the magnets.

Next up.. hand stitching the 'bone' to the spat. Then attaching the parachute clips to the spats.

Well, congrats on the new job. I hope you will get things done even if more slowly now. Smile

70 degree day in Colorado in late November? I GOT PAINTING TO DO!! (And a new Iwata Neo gravity airbrush to play with.)

I went outside to paint up the buckle. All primed and ready from the last unseasonably warm day.

Since we're all about layering the paint... I then did a base coat of aluminum.

Then a coat of flat black and gun metal.

Next, gonna have to take it outside and clear coat it.

I also got back to work on my spats. I dremeled out the back of the bootdisks to countersink some magnets in.

and the bone all hand stitched to the spat itself!

Now to add the parachute clips to each spat.

Spats came out great! Have you considered refining the “dog bone” that covers the top so it is more clean at the curved edges?

It's something I'm considering. The shape was great on the cut fabric, until I started adding the quilting and turning things inside out. Maintaining shape with quilting will come with practice I'm sure.

I'll have to practice! In the meantime...

Starting real work on the belt....

I'll be doing the black stitching by hand. It looked like that was going to be the best method. Slow, but best. I found this tutorial, https://www.marthastewart.com/1125947/how-sew-leather-hand, and picked up an over stitch wheel, a stitching awl and I already have a groover on hand. Once the contact cement cures, that's the next item on the agenda.

Trying to get back to work on this.... So today I finally fixed the lights into the upper visor.

https://youtu.be/D3K9ECViO7A

I then got to work on the black stitching on the belt. I may have to redo it and that means another belt blank to re-dye as I got off kilter on the stitch grooves.

I'll reapply some dye to see if that will mask the groove a bit..
