As decided by the linked poll, we will be doing a group build of Resistance/TFA X-Wing Pilots. Poll: http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=88576

Fast Facts
Cost Estimate: Roughly $300
About $250 if you go with the cheapest options and don't get a helmet
About $320 if you buy the cheapest options and do get a helmet
About $400 if you choose to buy the most expensive pieces for everything
Timeline: October to November
Time commitment: Nearly every Sunday
Location: Varies, we need volunteer hosts
First Squadron Appearance: Episode VIII Premiere

Item Buying Checklist: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QfXfaq_ihxGBicVudOxnB_7IgVeNWjfsUp0iHh_nMJU/edit?usp=sharing

Cost Breakdown

In addition to the items listed below we’ll need an assortment of elastic, velcro, snaps, thread, paint, interfacing etc. Either bring a bag of these things from your craft hoard to share, or add a $15 buy-in for misc. items like this. We’ll put out a wanted list of shared items as we get closer to the sewing dates.

Listed costs are per person.

1. Flightsuit:
• Three to four yards of "Solarium Solar 54"-Cherry" from Joann's
Link: http://www.joann.com/solarium-solar-54in-cherry/1887850.html
Before you buy, get on the Joann's mailing list and use their coupons! There's no need to buy this full price. Stack a 50% off one item with a 20% off total purchase in store and it'll be $26.38 for 3 yards or $35.18 for 4 yards. Four yards is safer than three, so if you have the means, get 4 yards (or more).
• Ruffle elastic trim ($7.50 for 1.5 yards)
• Snaps, Velcro, elastic, thread, etc.

2. Vest:
• White polyester fabric about 1.5-2 yards "Shao White Stretch Sateen (SKU 400104935671)" also known as "Sew Classic Bottomweight Stretch Sateen Fabric" http://www.joann.com/sew-classic-bottomweight-stretch-sateen/xprd757778.html
Something is up with the SKU. It won't show up online, but that's the one we got in the store. The link is the same fabric, just a different name for some bizarre reason. It might have to do with it being available in multiple colors. My guess is that the SKU is some sort of in-store number specifically for the white version of the fabric, whereas online they're all sold under number.
• Black paint & brushes
• 1/2" batting 1.5-2 yards
• Assorted velcro, elastic etc. Most of this will hopefully be crowd sourced, we'll take stock at the first meeting.

3. Chest box
• 3D printed by Chris George ($45)
If you have access to your own printer, the file is here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2056942)
• Chest plate (Chris is working on 3D printing this too)
Message Chris if you're getting your chest box/plate from him!
• LED ($2)
• LED power supply (roughly $1)
• Black corrugated rubber/plastic hose ($32 if ordering in group from this seller http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77280)

4. Flight harness:
• Danny has come up with the harness for $58.28

5. Signal flares & leg bandolier:
• Bandolier: webbing from strapworks (about $4 for both types of webbing)
grey 1" nylon webbing for the knee straps: http://www.strapworks.com/Polyester_Webbing_p/pewsc1.htm
2" black/charcoal seatbelt webbing for the flare belt: http://www.strapworks.com/Polyester_Seatbelt_Webbing_p/sbpew2ncf.htm
• Two 1" metal sliders ($1.20) http://www.strapworks.com/Metal_Slides_p/ms-c.htm
• Flares: lathed out of wood by Katherine & Rook, & spray painted silver. Wood cost is about $5 for the 4-5 flares. Rain may be able to get at least some of this for free from scrap wood from Dusty Strings (harp and other stringed instrument shop where Rain's parents used to work)

Don't buy anything from strapworks independently. We're going to do a group order and get free shipping.

6. Boots: There seem to be some options
• Order these in groups of two or more for free shipping: ($22)
https://www.jdwilliams.com/en-us/products/cushion-walk-winter-boots/p/FM143#&mainSearch=true&outletSearch=false

• These have been okayed by a judge, but you should order them soon because they take a while to ship. ($19.98 + $12 shipping = $31.98 total)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221584517518

• ($40) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GMU43BS/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_5_w?th=1&psc=1

• ($35) https://www.amazon.com/Womens-Mountain-Walking-Tactical-Waterproof/dp/B01GMU4F7A/ref=pd_sim_309_2?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=YQ7HGHJHD52A2FPEHGSK&th=1&psc=1

• ($35) https://www.amazon.com/Winter-Waterproof-Insulated-WINBOOT-BLACK-8/dp/B01M8MDDEI/ref=sr_1_30?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1505860330&sr=1-30&nodeID=5658904011&psd=1&keywords=winter%2Bboots&th=1&psc=1

• ($60) http://www.ebay.com/itm/GroundWork-Womens-Black-Mucker-Stable-Yard-Winter-Snow-Zip-Up-Boots-Wellies-/263223098800?var=&hash=item3d4951bdb0:m:mB7hh9oAZ_nL2UGNrwpI3cQ#rpdCntId

• ($35) http://www.thechefskorner.com/groundwork-new-ladies-horse-riding-yard-showerproof-stable-walking-rain-snow-winter-ski-warm-farm-mucker-boots-black-womens-shoesgroundwork-paint-potpremier-fashion-designer-p-723.html

I'd run these past judges before buying. If you want free shipping from Amazon talk to me (Katherine) because I have Prime.

7. Gauntlets:
• Wampa Wear is higher quality ($60) https://www.wampawear.com/product/resistance-pilot-split-thumb/
• Costume Base is pleather, but a judge said they are approvable ($20)
Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-WING-Resistance-Fighter-Pilot-GLOVES-TFA-star-wars-replica-/121995043432
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G216RTS/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_5KcXzb6PY1YQG
• Let's keep looking for one cheaper than Wampa Wear but a bit nicer than Costume Base.

Distribution of Labor

We need volunteers to take the lead on each of these items. Taking the lead means using the forum to find patterns or the buying source for the item listed. It does not mean you have to do the actual purchasing yourself if you are unable to.

Currently we stand at
Flightsuit & Vest pattern Lead: Danny Chen
Chest Box Lead: Chris George
Belt Lead: Mark Edwards & Danny Chen
Webbing & Bandolier Lead: Jim Picicci
Buckles Lead: Danny Chen
Aluminum Bracket Lead: Katherine Winchell
Flares Lead: Katherine Winchell
Boots Lead: Mark Edwards
Gloves Lead: Torrey Stenmark
Helmet Lead: Heather McFarlane
Painting Lead [for helmets & chest boxes] : Susan

Additionally we need volunteers for:
-Online Ordering: As needed if the item lead doesn’t have the means to place the bulk order themselves. We need people who have the ability to put large payments on their credit card for bulk orders of fabric & etc. Prepaying via PayPal does not work because PayPal holds your money hostage for 21 days if you pay via “Goods and Services”

-Sewing machines/sergers that can be brought to the workshops

Timeline:
In the past I’ve found that Sundays are the most open. The time of day on Sundays can be negotiated, and if Sundays don’t work for those interested, we can look into doing Saturdays instead.

[COMPLETE] -September 30th: Finalize commitments.

[COMPLETE] -October 15th: Build Session 1 (sizing, patterning, pinning, and cutting flightsuits)
[Location: Mark Edwards- Gold Bar]
[Time: Noon - 7:00 PM??? <Future days will be shorter]

[COMPLETE] -October 16th: Bulk order ruffle elastic, belts, webbing, and metal bits.

[COMPLETE] -October 22nd: Build Session 2 (sewing flightsuits day 1)
[Location: Caitlin's house in Shoreline]

[COMPLETE] -October 29th: Build Session 3 (sewing flightsuits day 2)
[Location: Jim's house]

[COMPLETE] -November 5th: Build Session 4 (sewing flightsuits day 3 + vest cutting out + helmet disassembly)
[Location: Susan's house]

-November 12th: Build Session 5 (finish flightsuits, assemble belt, bandolier, and flight harness, continue cutting vest bits)
[Location: Jim's house (West Seattle)]

-November 19: Build Session 6 (helmet repainting, chest box painting & LED installation, hose installation, vest bits cutting, sewing catch up)
[Location: Magic Mirror Comics (Mill Creek)]

-November 26th: Build Session 7 (vest assembly, finishing touches, & submission pictures)
[Location: tentatively Caitlin's house (Shoreline)]

There has been some interest in blasters and holsters as well (they aren't required for approval) If someone wants to take the lead on that and add a Saturday build for that please do!

November is historically a slow month for events. We could choose to have a “final weekend blitz” and combine the harness and painting into a weekend and either finish early or have another “catch up” day.

Please use the registration feature to show your commitment or interest. If you're interested in volunteering for any of the listed needs of this group please comment. If you have any questions/suggestions/comments/concerns/etc. please comment.

The boots that I sourced are technically women's shoes. I will contact the maker and see if I can get a good size comparison chart for men to be able to know what size will work for them. I have heard that those boots run a little large so that will need to be considered when choosing your size. The belt is a British Army PLCE web belt with roll pin buckle that is worn inside out. (It's the exact belt I wear as Cassian) I am working on finding the belt in grey. We are also willing to open our home for some of the build days though I know for a fact we will be unavailable on October 29th

Im fully willing to make the trips from where I am in Renton to where ever we need to be. I don't have any formal Making experience, but i have access to a small shop and know my way around it, and im willing and able to be someones assistant in making parts. And as long as the bulk order isn't over $200 a month, I can at least partially make the bulk orders.

My only concerns are cost, and by that i mean i cant put 300 down right at the start, but I can totally pay partially for what is needed at that time. The second issue is the time we meet. I work sundays from 9-5, and i also assume id need to plan in about an hour and a half commute at worst to get there in time. If we do our builds in the evenings im completely fine on sundays, but if that's not possible then id prefer to do it on Saturdays or Tuesdays.

Edit: If painting comes down to using spray cans, im willing to take lead on that

New fabric: http://www.joann.com/solarium-solar-54in-cherry/1887850.html

It's $8.79 a yard, so that's $26.37 to $35.16. But, we won't need dye anymore, so the price increase comes out to be $7 - $16 price hike.

It is currently on sale, but the sale can easily be replicated by a coupon if you miss it.

As Katherine mentioned, I can order the helmets for everyone for $10 cheaper than you can get them elsewhere. They come in cases of two, so if everyone who wants me to order one can let me know, I'll keep a list and order accordingly, then let everyone know when I need payment.

I can also offer the shop (Magic Mirror Comics, in Mill Creek Town Center) as a workshop location. We do have a D&D group that meets on Sunday evenings from 4-8pm, but they only take up one table. We do have room for at least a couple of sewing machines and fabric cutting stations.

Possibly worth noting for fabric: I haven't ordered from there yet, but Chrissy from Saber Guild swears by nickoftime.net and their bulk fabric discount.

Lastly: I have a can of silver spray paint left over from a project, and will happily donate it for the cause.

Thanks Mark!
I know I'll be missing the 22nd because I'll be presenting at a research conference, but that's what the make up day is for.

We can definitely spread out the ordering as needed. If we order the fabric & etc. this month (September) and order the helmet and chest box in early October would that spread it out enough? That'd put about $185 needed in September and $115 in October.

The painting will be with brushes. Taking the lead on painting will mean finding a printing a lot of references images for them, as well as coordinating getting the paint, brushes, and other equipment.

Thank you Heather!

Unfortunately nickoftime doesn't have that fabric in the quantity we need. However, Joanns.com doesn't have it in the quantities we need either. There's only 16 yards available. That's enough for four to five people. If someone has the means it might be a good idea to buy that now while it's on sale online and get paid back. If our build group ends up getting more than 4-5 people committing we'll start hunting at local Joann's stores.

The silver spray paint will be great for the flares!

In that case ill have to retract from being lead on that. Im not that comfortable at painting by brush, and I don't want to screw up something as notable as the helmet Razz

Oh, I do have a sewing machine I can easily bring to the shop, or to wherever. Sewing is NOT my strong suit, but I have the machine.

I will buy the 16 yards of fabric right now but I need 2 more people to commit to paying me back via PayPal friends and family within the next 48 hours. Price is $27 per person. Only need 2 more people at this time.
