There is NO secure changing area. We have been told there is a lot of businesses in the parking area with public-accessible restrooms to change.
Parking is free on weekends. They LOVED having RL/501/Mandos at prior events. If the no secure changing area is not an issue for you, they'd love to have any of us out!

Event Description
The Light The Night walks are a celebration of light to drive out the darkness of cancer. Together family, friends and co-workers gather to celebrate, honor or remember those touched by cancer. The Walks are a family friendly event with children’s activities, live music and food. The Walk literally lights the night as all participants will carry lanterns. Those who carry white lanterns are cancer survivors, those carrying gold lanterns are walking in memory of someone they lost, and those carrying red lanterns are friends, sponsors and fundraisers who walk for a world without cancer.

Last year we had two storm troopers and they made one of our kids, currently in treatment, feel like he was part of a Star Wars movie! Not to mention the thousands of other adults and children who were eagerly lining up to see the fantastic Star Wars costumes! This walk is an amazing opportunity to make an incredible impact on our walks as we work to give hope to those suffering from cancer!

Mission Report:

Date 10/14/17

Event: Rockville Light the Night

The event was outdoors. The staff was very helpful and friendly. In attendance were Norman (jedi), Jason (R2D2), Kate Welsh (Jawa 501st), Bill and Cheryl Thomas (501st), William and Melissa Ralph (501st) and myself (jedi). We entertained the crowds as they gathered to start the walk.

We did have one person who was making the Jawa uncomfortable. I kept putting myself between them and tried to deter the person. Finally the person did leave.

At one point a kid comes running up out of the crowd, slam dunks on my head and then runs off. Cheryl Thomas was a witness. I was fine. Startled more than anything. They did keep an eye out after that.

There were booths and tents set up along the streets. We were offered food and drinks from them all night. When the walk did start we gathered near the starting line and cheered the crowd on as they walked past. Parking we ended up paying for and had to change at our vehicles for there was no secure area for us.

It was great to see so many smiling faces young and old that night.
