This is the final discussion for this matter.
This discussion will be up for one week and then any changes added/subtracted and will then be put up for a vote.

Please look over this carefully and make any comments for changes that you would like to discuss.

One thing I question is making the large, heavy weaponry required. These are weapons that can NOT be holstered. In this day and age, I am not sure that requiring them is a good idea. Most will likely have a BFG...but "optional" and "required" are two different things.

Battlefront 2004 Version:

* Accurate Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet - black/dark front "visor up" version is required-smoke colored visor down not acceptable. Antenna on comm box optional.

* Shirt: Light gray long-sleeve shirt- regular fold-over pointed collar, and no visible fasteners.

* Brown leather work gloves with small flared cuff

* Black vest should be Endor-style waist length with capped sleeves and 4 cargo pockets on the front of the vest (2 on each side) with no pockets in the back.

* Pants
Color can range from khaki to chocolate brown - plain with no cargo pockets.

* Belt
2" wide olive webbing belt with an ALICE buckle and three olive green canvas belt pouches

* Black boots with grey gaiters that cover the shaft of the boot from ankle to mid-calf. Top of gaiter has a tan strap and no laces.

DL44 Blaster or DH 17

* Optional gear:
Bazooka HH-15
- thermal detonators (spherical Boushh kind - Pandemic)
- HX3 Mines
-olive drab/green holster

Hasbro Action Figure Version:

Accurate Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet - black/dark front "visor up" version is required-smoke colored visor down not acceptable. Antenna on comm box optional.

Shirt: White/cream long-sleeve shirt-pull-over style, crew neck and full-length sleeves

Brown leather work gloves with a small flared cuff

Bandolier - olive or tan in color with at least 4 cylindrical greeblies

RFT black vest that can follow the ANH RFT standards OR Rogue One RFT.

Pants - color can range from khaki to chocolate brown with cargo pockets on the sides.

Belt - 2" wide olive webbing belt with roll-pin buckle and three olive green canvas belt pouches

* Black boots with grey gaiters that cover the shaft of the boot from ankle to mid-calf. Top of gaiter has a tan strap and laces.

DH-17 blaster

* Optional gear:
E-60r bazooka
- olive drab/green holster
- Endor-style wrist communicator - brown

Rebel Vanguard Mobile Version

Accurate Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet - black/dark front "visor up" version is required-smoke colored visor down not acceptable. Antenna on comm box optional.

Shirt: White/cream long-sleeve shirt - pull-over style, crew neck with 3/4-length sleeves or 3/4 rolled sleeves.

Bandolier: olive or tan that carries at least 4 cylindrical greeblies

RFT black vest: follow either ANH standards or Rogue One vest standard for pocket layouts.

Pants: khaki to chocolate brown pants with cargo pockets on the sides.

Belt 2 inch dark brown or dark olive green belt with silver rectangular buckle, no pouches.

Black boots - mid-calf high jackboots

DH-17 Blaster

Optional:
Bazooka E-60r

With regard to heavy weaponry, I'd be for either a bazooka OR DH-17/DL-44 depending on the version.

I added the word "work" to the gloves line item...

just "brown leather" almost makes them sound like dress gloves...

For the Hasbro Action Figure Version I think that the Boot/Gaiter part should be changed from:

* Black boots with grey gaiters that cover the shaft of the boot from ankle to mid-calf. Top of gaiter has a tan strap and no laces.

to

* Black boots with grey or khaki gaiters that cover the shaft of the boot from ankle to mid-calf. Top of gaiter has a matching colored strap and no laces or zippers.

I agree with Jim, the Bazooka should be an option, if they don't have it they will need a DH-17 at least. Id recommend other in universe BFGs and Bazookas would be ok too as optional seeing as E-60rs arnt readily available. I know there is a maker for these rockets from battlefront.

This is a nightmare...lol...
and one of the reasons why I do not like costumes from gaming...

if you google Rebel Vanguard....you come up with so many variations that it is not even funny...

black gaiters
tan gaiters
no gaiters
black visor helmets
white visor helmets
helmets with no swoop
costumes that look like a Yavin tech jumpsuit
some that look like Endor
some that even look like Hoth
white shirts
tan shirts
capped sleeve vest
no sleeves
and on and on and on...

I have also never been a fan of costumes made from an action figure...
mostly they are not accurate and they often seem to change when Hasbro decides to re-cycle them

This is crazy. There is no way to lock down this costume to specific components.
I do not envy the judges on this one.

The question stands: with differing sources on supposedly the same costume, do we typically go more or less specific?

a) do we make several specific variant standards, or

b) make a single broad standard designed to be more inclusive?

Is there precedent from other sources that tend to be irregular, such as comic books?

Yes...some comic book characters can also be irregular and often comic book characters lack the required full front to back and head to toe images....
colors vary...
and there are sometimes a range of accessories....

That is why as a judge, I do require all of the reference material someone used to make their costume if there is no standard...

IF they can NOT provide the head to toe and front to back images...I will not approve the costume as it does not meet the requirements as stated in the RL Charter...

and...
again...
it is not up to the judges to wander the internet looking for images to validate a costume with no standard...
that falls to the applicant

I'd recommend just listing out all the variants and their differences like we are doing, its not an impossible task. There looks to be 4 total sources so we just need to add the BF2 variant to Phyllis's list.

Having played all those games I can say that none of the RFT style Vanguard variants above have any customization options, they are as seen above.

Id recommend limiting the standard variations to the RFT styles at this time. The tech, endor and hoth ones I haven't seen anyone attempt or talk about attempting. The RFT style one is most iconic and I know a few people already have that costume approved.

Sorry for the delay on this....

I made changes in the first post based on this discussion.

I don't want to add yet another variation at this time....3 is enough imho....

and...
yes....RFT version only at this time....

I will give another day or two for you folks to look over the first post again and see if I screwed anything up and then will move toward voting.

I took the BFGs and moved them to optional...
