I will be starting this costume shortly but wanted input on some fabric. We are looking at this for the suede portion of the dress. The photos were taken in natural light. Will this color/fabric be approvable? You can see it matches both front and back in color.

I think so. Bit hard to tell for sure, but it looks to be in the right range.

Finally getting back to this costume now that a few others have been finished. Smile

Another member is making this for me and sent me the mock up to test for fit etc. Keeping that in mind, are there any issues that stand out on the dress that need to be fixed? I took several shots to show the different panels in the skirt for reference. The front panels need to be shortened but as far as how they lay and where they are placed, are we good?

So I'm trying to understand your skirt, that's a mock up right? It's honestly a bit difficult for me at least to understand it from the design on the fabric, but it looks like it's the right drape, just looks a little too full. I'm pretty sure there is a more visual portion of the underskirt, over the right knee, that ends right above the knee, which is where her leg becomes visible the most.

Is that shirt also a mock bodice? If so it looks really good, maybe just more of a V neck shape Smile

To be honest, the pattern on the mock up fabric makes it a bit hard to focus on the shape. But it looks like there's a split on the side of the leg instead of in front of the right leg?
Would be nice if the layers had a solid color since that would make it easier to look at.

I would also recommend practising getting the fold on the top layer done from the outset, so you can see whether it lies right front and back.

Thanks for the input. I'll make sure to update her on these comments before we make the next mockup. Very Happy

Hi, I'm the seamstress on this. Thank you for the great comments, they are really helpful.

Yes, the split is over the wrong leg, but I will correct that. I also don't have the panel shapes right, but I also wasn't sure how it all would look.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you have any reference pictures I can look at to understand?

It's small, but you can clearly see how the material is folded back in front in the first image in this gallery thus showing the reverse side of it.

So while doing research on this dress, I found this article:

http://swffaq.tumblr.com/post/119771977462/ewok-dress-return-of-the-jedi-after-meeting-the

This caught my interest:

Quote:
DESIGN: To create a dress that looked like it could have been made on Endor, stitcher Laurie Rudd used chamois leather with an integrated crepe blouse. The dress was stitched together and then leather was handsewn over the seams to create a primitive, decorative cross-stitch pattern.

I found chamois leather on Amazon. I think it would have to weathered heavily, but I'm not sure about the color either.

I'm thinking the color won't work but if a similar color to Leia's can be found, we should be good. I also think it interesting that the costume designer is quoted specifically as using that material.

Definitely too yellow. Undyed hides give the best color for this costume.

I prefer the look and feel of undyed pig skin for this costume. Smile

Hi! I'm the seamstress making this dress for Leia Aurora and I have an update to share!

I got the main body of the dress assembled this evening. I am pleased with the shape and roughly how things are turning out. I would love to get feedback on the progress.

This one I think I sewed down the slit too far, so that is something I plan to take up and make shorter.

The model is my sister, so not the final wearer.

For feedback, specifically, how are the points of the skirt? To me it feels long, though I am happy with the shape of the points. What do you guys think?

Still to do: Get crepe for the undersleeves, as well as lacing for the details. I also have to put the sash together as well.

The left side is a bit open because I am planning to put a zipper in on the side to help with dressing. Then the skirt will either hook or snap into place over the zipper. Thoughts?

Question on undergarments for this costume. Are nude bicycle style shorts or similar permitted? The cut of the leg is very high and for modesty's sake I would like to wear them but am not sure if that is allowed.

Also, hair length! My current hair sits halfway down my back . When I add on the braided front piece, should it match the length of my hair or do I need to make it longer and also add extensions? I've seen several recently approved Ewok Leia's with different hair lengths so wanted to confirm this, please.
