So I've always seen myself as more of a Han than a Luke.. and always wanted a costume of his. Never really thought I could pull off the standard Han costume, but i fancy Hoth Han apparel!

Trying to step aside from Chewie, as it's my only rebel costume - I enjoy the Biker Scout so much as its more flexible than my TK, i have deciced to do this.

I am UK based so not as many suppliers of parts over here, but would appreciate help on sourcing items and knowlege/links to existing threads would be handy. I haven't found all of the info yet and i'm only just starting out.

My plan is to make Hoth Han, ideally with a blue Parka as that's how i see it, how i grew up with it on screen, and how the figures look - despite knowing it was really brown. However, i do plan on making it snowy... those who know my Wookiee will know I dont do half measures, he is going to be icy, snowy, covered in crap!

So - this is my list so far of parts (collated from a shopping list mostly from Clothears)

Hoth Han

1. Dark blue or dark brown quilted thigh-length parka with a full hood trimmed in brown/gray fur, 2 pocket flaps at the bottom of the front yoke and a flap pocket on each upper sleeve

2. Correct rank insignia on upper left side of the parka

3. Light gray or tan pants with quilted knees

4. Light gray or tan suede boots with suede wraps around them and 3 white straps on each

5. Light gray gauntlet style suede gloves with comlink on left wrist

6. White rimmed ski goggles with clear (colourless) lenses

- Might be Smith goggles
- 1978 Scott ski goggles (not made by Scott but they had input. These were known as Scott #76

7. Light gray or off-white long scarf

8. Accurate leather gunbelt and buckles with capped holster, correct tools and proper droid caller

9. DL-44 blaster (Empire Strikes Back version)

10. White electrobinoculars with attached shoulder-strap (Optional)

11. White or off-white accurate Hoth cap/soft helmet

Ok so update.

5. Light gray gauntlet style suede gloves with comlink on left wrist

- I have now got some gloves. Managed to get some off Ebay for £5 which have long wrist gauntlets and no logo!

There are no seams around the palm. This is how the originals were judging by the prop store photos.

I found a couple of scarves really cheaply too. They look to be fairly close to the original but I wont necessarily keep them. The lighter beige one has the freyed edges which are the same as the original which appear to have been folded over and stitched :

Close to the original beige folded over at the edges style outer scarf

I've just realised that the inner one is a much thicker knitted/ribbed scarf!

Update :

Just found some photos and zoomed in and realised the brown scarf I got was totally wrong! Not sure what I was thinking!

The brown inner scarf is a thicker knitted scarf. Check out the original :

And this is what I found on Ebay! Its exactly the same thread and stitch pattern. If you look closely, each ridge has a centre line - as does this one I found in Germany!

Update 01/01/18

I've just ordered these from Ebay. Now i am NOT usually one for doing something like this. I cant tell how accurate they will be if at all, and they probably wont be. But for £38 delivered!!!... I thought it was worth the risk. They may be a pattern base, or a boot base, or nothing at all. I decided it was worth the risk.

They probably won't be anything like this but it's trial and error at the moment. A few people on the RL have suggested these but no one seems brave enough to have bought them! Lets see what they turn out like....

Update 01/01/18

Goggles...

Seems to be unknown to people on the RL (and RPF) that Han's Goggles were actually Carrera 98 Motorsport goggles. I have a friend in the UK who is in the "inner circle" as it were with the StarWars world who has lots of original photos.

These are the fellas in question..

Impossible to find nowadays, last pair went on Ebay for $250. But you never know i'm sure some people have them lying about in their garage...

So next task will be to source some VERY near same shape models and butcher them to the same as above. I wont settle for the CRL "any goggles are acceptable" business Smile

Found these on Ebay for a few quid..

They aren't perfect, but are in reserve for now to be modified if needed..

Update 04/01

Parka ordered from Magnoli Clothiers Very Happy - lovely chap to deal with. Thanks to Evert for the photos of his Parka which inspired me. I have asked Magnoli to alter the parka slightly as the chest pockets on the site photo are back to front.. he's happily agreed to update it Smile

Update 04/01

Goggles!

I am searching constantly for Goggles...

So I want some Carrera 98 original goggles... but they are rare as s**t and not possible to obtain!!

I've been looking for alternatives but its REALLY really hard to find anything that's as close to the originals as possible.. then i stumbled upon these safety goggles... VERY close shape..

So had a go at chopping some up to see what they looked like! Now i need to put some rivets/studs in to perfect it but i am really impressed with the shape!

Once they are sprayed white these should look just the part!

Update 16/01/18

- Goggles - Completed my own home made version (which look pretty damn close!!) pics will be attached later

- Holster - in talks with Magnoli Clothiers but this is difficult as measurements need to be done over the top of a coat I dont yet have..

- DL44 - I have ordered a mk2 Denix C96 Mauser (full metal). For now will likely have resin greeblies until I can afford all of the metal parts!

- Gloves have been weathered (pics to follow).

- Cap - many details about this to be added later! My contact who is making me one is making me one to Han's standards which are NOT the same as the standard rebel caps!

Need help with :

Finding a wrist comlink greeblie
Finding an accurate Rank badge with proper detail/ribbed knob dials
Finding the quilt-knee trousers!
Finding a Han envelope shirt

So the Denix blaster has come out amazingly so far!

- Aluminium Flash Hider added
- Metal scope mount fitted
- Metal scope fitted and domed lens fitted to front
(Still searching for 27mm domed lens for the back)

- Painted and weathered using the "petroleum jelly" method!

This is how it looks now...

Ok so I was doing research on how to get the weathering right and I wanted to make this as close to the original paint work as possible.

This is how it started

- Aluminium blacked body

- Chrome/Alu Flash suppressor

- Cast metal and brass scope

- Black (anodised?) metal scope mount

This was the goal :

I sprayed the scope mount a base coat of silver and then black over the top as a final coat. The scope was sprayed brass and then a top coat of black. The disc was sprayed brass then silver then a top coat of black with weathering levels between.

The weathering was achieved by doing this :

Dabbing the areas wanting to look weathered with petroleum jelly on an ear bud, then spraying over the top. The petroleum jelly stops the paint in those areas adhering, and when it's all dry you just wipe it away! Its really simple, gives a perfect 'chipped' look and anyone can do it. The disc was done twice so that it has the appearance of multiple levels of paint....

Here is the end result :

I dont know when the second picture of the original (above) was taken, but the first is recent - so i based mine on that!

The Flash hider is 'penned on' with a Sharpie, then sprayed at a distance and slowly layered to cerate the effect seen in the original.
