Hi all!

Just wanted to post real quickly to say hello and introduce myself!

My name is Natalie and I live in the Tampa Bay Area (Pinellas) and the next costume on my to-do list is Jyn Erso. Right now I'm doing research and collecting materials while I finish up another WIP.

I have no firm completion date for this, but I'd love to make it sooner than later. (Famous last words).

This will be my first Star Wars costume and I'm really looking forward to getting into this project and submitting to RL for approval.

Anyone local to the area may run into me at events cosplaying as either a gender bent Eleventh Doctor or Green Arrow. (Captian Cold is the WIP).

Thanks!

Yes! I would love to have a Jyn Erso to do Scarif with at events! Otherwise, people won't know who I'm portraying and guess that I'm just another Starship Trooper, or "Aliens" Marine, or Stargate, or...

Having a Jyn Erso to key in my Scarif character would be most excellent!

Nice! Looks great!

I happen to know that there are at least 2 others in the Tampa area also working on Jyn, so you should be in good shape soon =)

Welcome Natalie! It seems we have a small group in Tampa all working on Jyn right now (I know of three people lol), so I would definitely touch base with Jasmine and the others! I am sure you are already on the FB group, and I know if you all work together it will be beneficial! Jyn can be quite a tricky intricate costume, so by working together you can all help each other!
Good luck!

If this is a WIP thread, then it's time to see some WIP...

First part of the costume to be completed is the gloves, (which I thought was going to me the easy part). Nothing's ever "easy"...LOL. A lot more detail to these than you realize at first glance.

Anyway, instead of reading about it, you can see for yourself.

I'm really pleased with the way these turned out Very Happy

Thanks for saying so! It felt good to cross the first piece of the costume off the to-do list.

My 3D prints from 3DPropWorx are ready for paint after two weeks of priming, bondo and sanding.
And more sanding.
So.
Much.
Sanding... but yay, progress!

They absolutely are! I love the DIY thing and really went back and forth with 3D prints versus scratch build. Eventually my desire to actually wear the costume in this century and the outright cost savings of not re-inventing the wheel won out. But even this way there's still plenty of work so I get my hands-on fix Smile

So a bit more work on Jyn...
Did a nice little modification to the gorgeous and super accurate Crozo 2-MAL comlink I got from 3DPropWorx. I swapped out the clip for (what we believe to be) the screen accurate clip from a Pentel drafting pencil. Getting little details like this right appeals to the perfectionist/OCD part of my personality Smile

Just in case you're thinking of doing the same, I can say it's doable and not super hard if you have the right tools for the job and a bit of patience.

I realized pretty quickly that trying to use a standard drill, even with a 1/16" bit wasn't going to work without dancing across the surface, spinning the clip around or otherwise ruining the thing.

A Dremel with a teeny tiny carving/engraving bit was just perfect. Just the right amount of precision to work in the small space.

And on a side note, I loved the example image that was in the Amazon listing for the pencil. Pew pew goes the X-wing! It's the little things in life...

Got into painting and weathering this week... at last! Loving this part a lot more than the sanding part. Very Happy

Really pleased with the way things have turned out! Amazing how a little black & brown acrylic gives that "battling the empire grunge" and hitting the edges with some silver drybrushing really helps the detail pop.

This is the compad badge that will end up on her vest. 3D print by 3DpropWorx
