I spent about 3 hours of my Sunday morning adding the topstitching to my yoke so that I could complete my application. I cannot believe that I forgot them. I should know better since I was one of the people working on the CS.

More photos of the front of my jacket and the topstitching of the yoke. It took me almost three hours to add the stitching. Perhaps my sub-conscious did not want the do the extra work that is why I forgot it. Smile

Thank you for the compliment. I am really happy about how the jacket turned out. The Planam work jacket is a great base.

My Yavin Operation Officer was just approved. There are only three of us worldwide and I am the first one in Germany. Four Rogue One costumes down, one more (Scarif Marine) to go.

I want thank everybody that gave me feedback on this project. Special thanks to Kristina and empathy for their advice on all things sewing. I would have not been able to finish this without your help.

I wanted to share how I made the other 2nd version belt buckle for my Scarif Marine since the Yavin Operation Officer can also have that buckle.

PArmstr wrote:
I did some work on my two belts and my husband's belt. I had two Bundeswehr buckles and one roll pin buckle for three large tan PLCE belts. The belt was almost too short for my husband so am using the longest one with the Bundeswehr buckle for him. I had the BW buckles laying around because I used their belt straps for our Rebel Vanguard belt. The regular 5cm webbing kept slipping through the roll pin buckles.

Here is how I made the rebel buckle. First I took a BW buckle like the one I am holding in the photo and added a layer Worbla. Then I cut a 6cm by 7cm rectangle and two circles with a 3cm diameter out of cardboard. I glued the two circles together to make it thicker. Then I glued it in the center of the rectangle. Next, I glued the three glass things on to the circle. After that, I heated for Worbla for a bottom layer and placed the cardboard on it. Then I put another layer Worbla on top and pressed it to the shapes. Then I heated everything again with a heat fan and placed everything onto the buckle. I smuthed the edges together and let it cool down. The only thing left is to paint them silver.

I also had to do some changes to the belt straps. The PLCE was to wide for the belt buckles. First I took the two layers of the belts straps apart so that I only had the special inner layer left. Then I added 5cm wide tan webbing to each side. I doubled the thickness of the webbing by folding it and then sewing it together so that it would not slip out of the buckles. I added 30cm webbing to each side of the belts. Ralf only has 5cm overlap with the PLCE webbing where mine has 10cm to make it shorter than his.

Well, call me crazy but I am going to make another Yavin Operation Officer. This time I am going to try to make the jacket from scratch. I have about 2,5m x 1,5m of brown canvas laying around from a Mandalorian costume that I never finished. I am going to combine that with the new belt and khaki-colored BDU pants. I am not sure if I am going to use my green or my red rank badge. I will decide when I am closer to finishing the project. I am going to use the Burda pattern 6932 as the starting point. I will adjust it to my size and try to add an action plate. I not sure if I am going to replicate the one from my first jacket or if I am going to try to replicate the one Cassian Andors has. My grandma gave me two old bed-sheets that can use to find it out. This will be a slow journey but I am looking forward to all the new skills that I will learn on the way.

I never found the time to write the tutorial on how I made my blood stripes so I am sharing my Imgur gallery that shows the steps.

Thank you, Patricia! Smile Also super excited to see how a scratch build jacket goes! Just a note- I know the current standard calls for canvas, but I want to make sure you know you can use a heavy twill as well. Canvas can a huge pain when you get to the topstitching. Either is perfectly fine. Smile

I am going to try to use the brown first canvas because I have to use up my current supplies before I can buy new supplies. The brown canvas has a weight of 325g per square meter. The heavy twill of my current jacket has a weight of 290g per square meter. I should be able to manage the topstitching but I won't know until I get to that point in the process. If it does not work I will just buy twill instead. The heaviest brown twill fabric that I could purchase has a weight of 250g per square meter, is made out of 65% polyester/35% cotton, and is dark brown.

It will be a while before can start the actual sewing of this project because I have to finish four other costumes first, a Scarif Marine for my husband, two for me, and my EA/DICE Battlefront 2 Tatooine Specialist. I also have to learn more about pattern adjustment and make a couple of mock-ups. I want to get as close to Cassian Andor's jacket as I can with my skill set. I think this project will be done sometime next year or the year after. I am not in a hurry because I already have one. Making the jacket from scratch is just part of improving the costume and learning new sewing skills.

Oh for sure!! I just wanted to make sure you knew you had options. Smile I know one of our local base members has been working on a Cassian jacket from scratch. I'll see if I can get her to post any helpful bits she learned during her build. Smile

I already knew about the possibility of using twill instead of canvas. We talked about it on August 7th, 2019 on this thread. Smile I added twill as a possible fabric when I rewrote the Yavin Operation Officer costume standard into the new format.

That reminds me that we might want to change the type of blue for the blue-tan jacket. I have been looking around a lot but I never found blue-gray canvas or twill fabric. The only darker shades of blue that I found are royal blue, navy blue, and night blue. The hydro blue of the Planam work jacket is the closest thing I found to blue-gray but they are getting rare and are sold out in many sizes because many companies prefer multi-colored work clothing for their employees to uni-colored work clothing.

It would be great if your local member could share her scratch built with me. There is always more things to learn and many ways of doing things.
