I wore my senior officer at an event yesterday and my octagonal belt buckle tore up my shirt. I will post some photos of the event and the damage on my shirt later today. The edge of the belt must have rubbed so much on the shirt during sitting breaks that it tore it up. The edges of the buckle do not feel sharp when I rub over them with my finger, but it must be sharp enough to destroy the thin cotton fabric of the shirt. I guess I have to order another shirt, which is only available in 2XL and smaller now because all the 3XL and 4XL shirts have sold out. Then use the back of the smaller shirt to replace the left front part of my 4XL shirt. I hope that the color of the shirts or similar enough so that no one can see that it is made out of two shirts. I also have to work on the belt buckle so that it will not tare up the new shirt.

Edit:
Here are some photos of the damage. I have no clue how to repair this.

Here are some photos of the event. It was the first event with my senior officer costume. I was wearing my RFT holster and blaster because we hade a battle against Imperial forces as an intro/opening for the event. The intro/opening was filmed on both days but I do not know if the will be posted on youtube or Facebook or not.

Edit:
After taking a good look at the photos I think the shirt was torn up by the belt buckle sometime during the 4 rehearsals or the intro/opening scene. That was long before I sat down for the first time. I did a test on some similar cotton fabric. The fabric was cut up after rubbing the edge of the buckle over it about 20 times.

With your sewing skills Patricia, you may be able to disassemble your current shirt and rebuild it out of a sturdier fabric.

My Tandy RFT belt has an edge to it and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with the same problem one of these days. Time to take the sanding and polishing wheel to it...

I am thinking of making a shirt out of the tan-colored cotton twill fabric I used to make my battlefront desert trooper pants. It is a little bit thicker than my current shirt and should work very well.

My husband is going to sand and polish my octagonal belt buckle to get rid of the sharp edge too. We want to make sure that the new shirt does not get cut up.
