So I'm gonna do it... work on the Jyn Erso 'hat trick' and do all three costumes.

This probably should be in a Rogue Disguise sub-forum, but there isn't one for you to post WIP threads and questions, just the 'members only' detachment forum requiring special permission to post. So here it will stay.

I've told myself that even if I'm ordering this stuff, no starting until I finish up Eadu Jyn first. (We'll see how that goes).

Pulled the compad STL file from the Ground Crew costume group on FB and threw that on the printer. 7 hour print at .12 layer height.

I will need to figure out the best way the remove the two solid "lenses" and replace them with the translucent red and blue ones. Probably going to grab the dremmel and give that a try.

Started to throw some of the files for the "traffic wands" onto the printer. Doing all the pieces of one first to make sure I'm happy with size and scale before going ahead and printing the second.

These are sizable pieces; print times so far are some of the longer ones I've attempted in my relatively short 3D printing career. Very Happy

The printer decided to clog for the last large piece, so it's disassembled right now waiting on a few parts.

wand tip top half - 11 hours

connector - 8 hours

handle - 17 hours

My first traffic wand is off the printer (after a nasty clog and a wait on some replacement parts).

I've ordered some fluorescent orange plexi from Amazon instead of printing up the inserts and painting them.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K9L3Y5Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Worst case I can always hit them with a coat of paint if it doesn't feel "orange enough".

Progress!

Looks great so far!

I'm always going to (personally) advocate for more 3D printing, so it's always nice to see people incorporate parts in their costume builds. The prints look fantastic!

Ender Finders has some stupidly comfortable gloves. I have those same trooper gloves and I didn't want to take them off once I got them on!

But man do I feel dumb. I had no idea there was a Rogue Disguise board. Would be useful for my Cassian, but it doesn't seem too terribly public.

Keep up the good work!

Let's get to work building some armor!

I'm going to go overboard with WIP photos in this thread in an effort to provide a guide to anyone else who might want to build the Walts Trooper Factory IGC kit. I found very little info out there when I was doing my own research.

First up I tackled the two inset pieces on the chest armor. And after a lot of hyperventilating, made that very first armor cut (which I'm told is the hardest one).

LEFT CHEST

This part is easy - there's a ridge inside this piece, that's your cut line.

To finish off the left chest, there's a cast resin part that sits on top of the ABS part. It needs to be sanded down to the mold line. Don't bother trying to do this by hand. Get out the power sander until you're 98% there, then switch to doing it by hand.

The ABS piece doesn't have a perfectly flat surface, so to get a nice fit between the two pieces, I ended up sanding the center of the top of the plastic and the bottom of the resin piece.

RIGHT CHEST
The insert piece on the right side of the chest was a gigantic pain in the arse. There's a light mold line on the inside of the part that's the "official" trim line. That didn't work out for me. It required a ton of force to get it to fit in the recess, and would torque and twist once it was in there.
I ventured to the WTF Facebook page for insight, advice from Walt was trim it more. So I shaved and sanded, and shaved and sanded over the course of two evenings until it would fit with reasonable pressure.

I didn't want to take off any more material, so I took a scrap piece and glued it from edge to edge to the underside while squeezing the piece together in the problem area. This piece should also offer more surface area for the E6000 to work its magic.

After, the piece sits down into the recess happily.

WRAP ARMOR

Next up was the last easy cut, the wrap armor.

Just like the left chest part, just flip it over and trim along the inner corner. Once you've got the return edges removed the pieces will actually flex, though I think I'll eventually need a little heat to persuade it want to stay curved.

CHEST ARMOR OVERLAY

The top of the overlay piece of the chest armor needs to be trimmed down, and can either be notched and glued into the indent at the top, or you can cut a slot and push it through and glue it on the inside.

I went with the second option so that I could slather it with the E6000 and not worry about making a mess on the outside.

However if you want to go that direction you'll want to leave more "tab" than I did. I realized quickly I needed to glue on a little scrap so there was enough to push through and glue.

After spending some time looking at reference images, I decided that I'd leave about 1 cm of the return edge on the horizontal "wings". I trimmed some painters tape and used that as a trimming guide.

Next I had to figure out where to cut the vertical section so that the angle matched the reference and the edge met flush. To complicate matters, the left side will need to be trimmed to fit over the profile of the left detail and resin piece combo. I decided it would be easier to not worry about that yet, and just get the piece to fit first.

I trimmed off the unusable plastic from the lower edges. Then I used some scrap cardstock to mock up the shape, trimming and adjusting the angle until I was happy. I transferred the line to the plastic and trimmed.

This is what I ended up with after also trimming the bottom to leave the same 1cm of return edge:

CHEST ARMOR OVERLAY (cont.)

I taped the inset pieces in place so I could see how things were shaping up. It's fun to see how it begins to look like an actual thing instead of a pile of black plastic. But I also needed everything in place so that I could tackle trimming the other side.

I used a contour profile tool to figure out the shape I'd need to trim, then transferred the shape to the plastic. I still trimmed a little shy of the line just to be sure and checked the fit a few times before committing 100%.

You can find cheap contour profile tools on Amazon. I got this set because I'm pretty sure this won't be the last time I find this handy:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0888DYNGB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Happy with the fit on this!

TRIMMING THE MAIN CHEST ARMOR

Time to fully trim the chest armor. On most kits folks advise you to leave some of that return edge to give the illusion of thicker material - that's the red line in the image below.

But for this kit we're going with the yellow line along the sides/armholes because that matches screen used and this armor will have the 6mm foam added that extends beyond the edge of the armholes and shoulder area. Leaving the return edge would also prevent the wrap armor from fitting nicely with the chest armor.

Just like with the wrap armor and the left chest inset piece, if you flip it over and trim on the inside of the corner you're in the right place.

The bottom is a little different - here we want some of that return edge. Just looking at it you can kind of see how it needs to be. There is an image of the display costume that's low enough to show the shape in detail, so that's a great reference for setting up the trim line.

The tape works really nice as a guide for your knife if you go gently on the first pass and just score it in. I did realize after the fact that it's better to have the tape on the inside, protecting the plastic you're keeping so that if you slip a little, you're less likely to damage your armor.

love your progress!

The gloves are fine. TIE pilots, Gunners and all the other costumes that use gloves like this are in them all day. Im in deep South Louisiana and I troop outdoors in full heat, in my TIE pilot and Gunner. Just drink some water before hand. When I bought my Jawachopshot helmet there was no armor available yet, I figured i tould do it in Sintra, but now that ive seen how WTFs armor looks, I cant wait to see how it comes out for you. Ill be watching this with interest.
