I've been reading through all the forums looking for a width of the belt. Is there a specific measurement or range that the belt should fall within?

After having seen the original costume in person at the Power of Costume exhibit in NYC, it looked as though the belt measure approximately 2 inches wide.

To get as accurate a read on the width of the belt I downloaded screen shots that clearly showed the belt AND the Ep. IV lightsaber hanging on the belt. If you compare the belt width to the width of the silver collar on the lightsaber (the section that contains the bubble strip) - they are the same. The width of the silver collar is 2".

Be careful because a lot of the scenes have some of the belt covered by the material around Ben's waist, and you don't see the actual width of the belt.

I ended up doing that same thing you suggest. It turned out pretty good if you want to check the images in the WIP thread. http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73388&highlight=
