Event Description: Newark Days is our yearly celebration of the birth of our city. 2016 is our 61st year. This year's theme is "Voyage to the Stars" which we have decided would have a definitely Star Wars type theme. Our Grand Marshals are performers in a children's show on the fairgrounds called the Master of Light and the Dark Lord (Luke and Darth Vader type characters). We would love to have as many characters from Star Wars walking in the parade along with our Grand Marshals as well as walking around the Fairgrounds after the parade and posing for photographs. The parade includes all local politicians, churches, all schools and school bands from our town and at least 8 other towns in the Bay Area as well as floats, cars, etc. 1.7 miles from one end of town to the other. It ends at our Community Center and Fairgrounds where people are walking around, watching stage shows, riding fairground rides and eating food from vendors. The whole event is 4 days (Thursday thru Sunday) and put together totally by volunteers who work on this all year. The parade and bands are judged by professional judges. We give out monetary and trophy awards to the bands and trophy awards to all else. All money used to put on the event and parade comes from corporate sponsors.

How Did You Hear About Us: Friends involved and having been at other events where various members were involved

1. Yes, I will be your primary contact for the parade. Ramona McMaster cell 510-673-6418. A secondary contact on the grounds following the parade will Laurie Gratz cell 510-910-5689, as well as myself.

2. We would welcome anyone you would like to bring with you. Family and friends as well are welcome. They could walk along the parade route with the group if they wish.

3. Depending on how many of your people come, we are looking at either a room in the city council building, or pop up tents with walls or possibly a large camper. Since the parade ends 1.7 miles away, we would put their gear crates in a rental truck which would be taken to the end of the parade route and kept secured until access was needed. Water would be available at the parade staging area and both water and food would be provided on the celebration grounds. Your group would be well-cared for. Laurie Gratz will be setting up a booth for them to be able to get out of the sun and receive refreshments.

4. Parking at the staging area is free. But it would be helpful if people could carpool when possible. We will give out parking passes for the fairground area as well for later. But cars can be left at the staging area and we will have busses running through the day from the fairgrounds back to the staging area.

5. Water and snacks will be available at our info tent and lunch will be provided on the grounds.

I would be happy to discuss these arrangements with anyone in your organization. We would like to make this as easy as possible. The Rebel Legion would go a long way in the success and enjoyment of our 61st birthday celebration of our town and we would be so excited to have them with us.
Just a reminder that following the parade we would appreciate as many of the group as possible to remain to walk around the grounds and take pictures with our attendees.
Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing from your Rebels.
