My costume judge wrote me an email. He is concerned that there were only 2 troopers wearing the pouch belt. He was also concerned about the color. Mine is dark olive green and Private Basteren's is a browner color.

I found a total of 4 troopers with the SKS chest rig/pouch belt in the movie. It is very difficult to distinguish the color. Sometimes they look dark olive green, sometimes brown, and other times they even look black.

I sent the references to my costume judge. I will try to dye the pouches again if he still thinks that they should be brown. If the pouches do not take the dye I might have to use other pouches. That is not a problem I have more than enough different pouches for a couple of different combinations.

Well, I heard back from my costume judge. I will either have to dye the SKS chest rig brown, not wear any pouches at all or wear a different type of pouch. I am going to buy brown dye today and will try to dye the pouch belt tomorrow. I hope that will work.

I bought a new triple grenade pouch because I realized I bought a US version and not the French version the first time. I have some green canvas left from making the two rebel vanguard holsters. Perhaps I can the loop for the belt to the US triple grenade pouches and use it too.

Here is the current state of the dark-tinted goggles. I received the brown elastic band and will finish them next week.

Reworks are not fun. At all. That said, and having been a Trooper judge, I personally put more trust the photos from the beach assault as a primary and the VisDic photo a sa secondary.
The colors in all cases cast brown-ish. I certainly hope the dye " takes". Ive never had much luck with the stuff but others have done wonders. Would a paint similar to the DM paints we use for ERTs work to change the color?

I had good experiences with dying cotton and canvas in the washing machine and in buckets outside. Unfortunately, the pouches seem to be made of a mix of natural fabric and synthetic fabric because it is a replica. We do not have German brands with good dye for synthetic fabrics. I would have to rely on Rit DyeMore Synthetic that is imported by Amazon. I do not want to dye with that stuff in my kitchen and I have no way of doing it outside without having to buy extra equipment. So I will probably just use some of my other pouches if the natural fabric dye does not work. I have more than enough to choose from.

We do not have the paints that are used for the ERTs in Germany they have to be ordered abroad, which can be quite complicated and expensive. That is one of the reasons I am making the Bespin trooper and not the Endor trooper.

My Marine already has some weathering it is just not visible on the photos. I might add some more when my second Marine is finished. I am reusing the flak vest and cap for it. Many people overdo the weathering so that it is visible in the photos because of that they look like they have been rolling around in the dirt like pigs in real life. I am absolutely not a fan of that. I prefer light weathering that looks natural in real life and do not care if it is visible in photos or not.

Im with you on weathering. Unless your infantry actually IN a ditch or wet fighting position the modern fabrics don't show as much filth. I know where I always got dirty and I focus on that. Looking at modern photos, sand weathering is light. The worst I got in Graf was knees and my rubber boot covers.
Photos just don't show weathering other than mud or some sort of spray.

The place you got dirty and call "Graf", could that be "Grafenwoehr" by any chance?

Well, I was not able to buy the dye at any of my local stores because they did not have the color brown. I had to order it from Amazon instead. One pack came yesterday and the second should come today.

Yep our Pilots had to qualify quartely. Thats where I learned that the US 2.75" Hydra folding fin rocket it utterly useless shot from a hover. And its muddy. That's why the tankers like it.
Ill be watching to see how the dye job goes.
