I´ll combine my introduction with a description of my projects.
Smile

I´m old to Star Wars but fairly new in the costuming business.
As a 38 year old guy with glasses, you cannot awoid like those shiny, white armours and orange jumpsuites. But to build them myself has not been reality for me. Not until I saw you guys in the Sci-Fi convention in Älvsjö a couple of years ago.

Living in Tyresö, south of Stockholm, with my wife and our 6-year old son.
The two guys in the family´s now sharing the SW interest, much due to the LEGO-StarWars games and building series, so this spring, we held a Star Wars party on his 6th birthday. We tried to get a couple of StormTroopers to parade outside on the street, but they couldn´t make it.
So, taking the matter in my own hands, I come cross a beautifull Royal Guard helmet. A couple of meters of red satin and the party was a success.
And there it began ...

I´m still working on the RG costume. Funny enough, it´s what seems to be the easiest parts that take longest time. (But that would not be a newsflash for you guys ...)

The reason I´m posting here, in the Wampa´s cave, is that I have just started a new project. I´m since a couple of days an owner of new fine helmets.
The first one out will be the X-Wing pilot.
Second out will be Rebel Fleet Trooper. (If I can get away with the helmet. Since it´s an Altmann, it´s a bit smaller than most of the other ones. But i thought it could do for starters...)

Ok, that was a bit about me. More to come.
I´ll probably be needing help from you veterans in building the different parts. (ALL help is gladly accepted.)

Hope I´ll fly with you all in this autumn.

Best regards,
Fredrik

Yay!! More pilots! If we get one more we could even have a squadron in the outpost.

And very welcome to these parts of the woods. Star Wars can be a great thing for the whole family and that goes for costuming as well. You should really contact Darth Lars (Johan) about the x-wing pilot. He really knows anything about it. I prefer to keep green. Wink

I'm hoping to see you, and your progress, as soon as possible.

Nice to have a friendly Tuscan in the neigbourhood! Smile

The costume is taking small steps toward some kind of likeness.

I dug up my old schooloverall from 1990. We had orange overalls with patches and markings on them. The hardest thing is not to ruin the memorablia, but to remove the markings. (Does anyone know of a good remover for a black markerpen that has been on for 20 years?) Shocked
I will have to remove and rearrange the pockets a bit to get things right.

Progress:
* Jumpsuit as mentioned above.
* Boots found on ebay. (Knoebelbecher, hope they fit.)
* Gloves found on Tradera. (Swedish military MC- gloves. Think they will do)
* Looking at StrapWorks to order grey nylon. Must measure up how long. (Do you have a suggestion?)
* Flakwest. Here comes my grade 5 in "syslöjd" to the edge.
* Chestbox. I dunno. Propably gonna make it myself. Or get it done.
* Helmet. Well, it´s really good as it is. The only thing is that I have to be Luke. (I´m not gonna repaint it. That will have to wait ´til I get hold of another helmet.)

Thats all for now.
Over and out,
Fredrik

Nice! I am looking forward to having a wing-man in orange. Smile

Typical marker pens contain inks that are based on strong solvents...
You could try with alcohol ("T-röd").

I have some extra PP strapping from when I ordered for me and Vargman77. Strapworks.com was out of nylon at the time.

If you want to get a completed set, then you could ask Ben Kenobi in Elstree base for one He should have the correct "Roll Pin Buckle".
The buckle is also some times available from British Army Surplus stores, and from Mr Bojangles.

Having made four, I can help you with this. I have some extra buckles, leather and straps, plus some unfinished parts. I had used an IKEA shower curtain for the fabric.

I recommend Mr Bojangles if you want to buy a finished one. There are also kits from tk560. If you are building it yourself, then I have an extra hose that you could have.

An Altmann X-wing helmet? Shocked Nice!

Well, I'll have to poke trager then(Gina can help). She's in orange and upgrading/remaking parts of her costume to be screen correct. Very Happy
And Gina is very good at poking... Wink

On another front, I've been making tabards for my jedi! So, of course, here's a pic. I've also been sewing velcro into the tunic, so I won't have to use safety pins to keep it closed. Heh.

And the link to the album(in case you want more tabs pics): http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff269/Maria-Lora/Kostumer/Jedi%20kostume/Tabards/

I haven't gotten around to take new updated pics for my profile and think I'll probably won't until someone else is here to take them for me. Rolling Eyes

Looks good!

Another thing that could help keeping the tunic closed could be short straps at the hips that you tie together and hide under the obi.. One strap at the hem of the right flap is tied to a strap at the inside of the left flap, and a strap at the hem of the left flap is tied to a strap on the outside at the right hip.
An old "gi" (japanese training costume) that I have has straps like that, and I had them installed in my old (now retired) Jedi costume also. It worked very well to keep the tunic closed but the knots weren't exactly flat...

Oh, I considered that option. But now that I was working with the velcro at any rate, to keep the tabs on my shoulders, I decided I might as well keep at it and get some velcro sown on my tunic. Don't think I will need more than that, but only wearing it for some hours at a con will tell whether I'm correct or not. Wink

I just want to give a little fabric tip, especially for those of you working on jedi. http://www.broarne.se has a lot of fabrics inspired by countryside life. They have the largest amount that I've seen online of natural fibres, in natural colours, and it includes khadi (Indian homespun).

Hi hi, I like the expression on people's faces when they photograph themselves. ^^

But I like your tabard very much, Lora. Looks really good. I must add one to my costume too, when I have time/inspiration for this.

An update.
I´m almost done with my RFT. As you can see, the blaster is still a shiny blue one. Got it this monday and has not been able to find time yet. Aiming on monday ...

I´ve realized that, as almost everything in life, you get confused if you are working on to many thing at the time. But, it can get some really funny effects - these are my current costumes in a mix. One applied for, one going to be sent early next week and one still gathering material.

Well, see it as a fridayjoke:
