Event Name: Marin County Fair
Venue: Marin Civic Center Fairgrounds
Venue address: 10 Avenue of the Flags
San Rafael, CA
Event Start: 06/30/2016 - 11am
Event End: 07/04/2016 - 7pm
Event Website: http://www.marinfair.org/2016
Expected number of attendees: 10000
Requested number of characters: 20
Requested character types: SL TK TD BH TB TI TR ID Other REBELS!
Secure changing/staging area: Yes

Comments: : Amazingly, it's time for the Marin County Fair again. For new members, this is the longest running, and arguably our best attended event of the year (both in terms of the number of folk’s visits from fans as well as the number of GGG & RL members attending.)

As usual, R2 Builders, the Central California Garrison, Madalorian Merks, and the Rebel Legion are invited to participate as well.

**** ATTENTION DROID OWNERS **** - There's always HUGE interest in droids. If you have a droid, please consider bringing your creation on one or more of the days.

This event is open to all costume types, however, 'hard' & helmeted costumes are strongly preferred. With regard to Rebel Legion costumes, Rebel soldiers, X-wing pilots, and "hero" characters (provided the member bears a resemblance to the character they are portraying, Leia, Han Solo, Amidala, etc.), are preferred. The Fair management prefers costumes that looked like they just stepped out of the movie TK, Clone, TI, TB, TR, BH, etc.

Our Legacy at the Fair has always been as an Imperial presence, so preference for 501st members will be to always maintain a strong Imperial representation, allowing Rebel Legion members to make up the Rebel force. Since we have many members that are also RL members, as long as a balance between the Imperials and Rebels can be maintained, dual membership GGG members may do a 'stint' in one costume type (Imperial), and switch to the other (Rebel). Un-costumed handlers are allowed, but may not be provided free admission due to a limit to the number of passes we're provided for costumed characters. We prefer the un-helmeted characters act as handlers whenever possible. I will see about acquiring a limited number of passes for handlers & photographers though. Please contact me if interested.

Blasters, light sabers, and prop weapons are authorized. GGG & RL rules are in effect with that regard. So Jedi lightsaber battles are not permitted due to the close proximity of patrons & displays. If requested, please contact a team lead (Karen Katich or Tami Ashford) "Before" any mock display is done.

*** Fair Info ***
The Fair environment is a hybrid of sorts... it has the crowds of a Con, but with the atmosphere of a Theme park. Our large props (Tank, etc), special effect lighting, and sound, provides the perfect venue to create Star Wars 'magic' for the guests which are predominantly families with kids.

In addition to our usual 'guarding' of our base camp, it's possible we may receive permission to occasionally roam the Fair grounds (assuming we have sufficient numbers to continue to adequately man the indoor display and the Fair provides supervisory security.) Note: Our excursions outside the Exhibit hall **must** be known in advance (since we are escorted outside by Fair security). There have been issues in the past of members venturing outside on their own. Members are not permitted to roam freely outside our area without prior arrangement (for security reasons). We have a *great* relationship with the Fair, and should endeavor as always, to be maintain our typical high professional standards.

We have always been an extremely popular attraction at the fair, with many kids (and parents) remarking how they come back each year mainly to see us.

*** Event Details ***
- For the purposes of deployment, we will be on site from 11:00 through 19:00 (7:00 PM). Members are NOT required to remain for the entire period. Our goal is to have constant coverage of our area throughout the day, with members able to take shifts. Please try to avoid everyone taking lunch / break at the same time.
- Free parking and entrance passes will be provided to all who attend *in costume* (exception is the officially designated photographer). We have a large / secure changing / break room for our exclusive use. It is equipped with tables, chairs, mirror, and lots and lots of water and snacks!
- The environment is a comfortable, air conditioned indoor exhibition hall.
- Food vouchers are provided for all *costumed* participants for use at selected food vendors at the fair. Water and lots of snacks are provided as well.

This is a 'formal' event, meaning while in public view, members should remain in full costume (and refrain from removing buckets or walking around with flipped up visors.) Our dressing/break room is very close to the exhibit should the need arise to remove your helmet. As always, we are trying to portray as realistic a presence as possible.

After your 'shift' or during breaks, you are free to roam and enjoy the fair. Most fair rides and attractions are free. They also usually have some pretty well known bands booked that play later in the day/evening. Visit http//marinfair.org/ for more fair info, or to see who's playing on what days. There are also nightly fireworks over the lagoon as an additional incentive to remain until the end of our appearance time, and hang out afterwards. Occasionally, following the fireworks, GGG / RL members walk next door to the Embassy Suites hotel for refreshments and to chit-chat about the day's adventures.

Typically, we are 'understaffed' on weekdays, and especially on the 4th of July. As an incentive, for those that attend on July 4th, I will have extra passes to provide free admission for a friend or family member. (Since we are provided with a set number of passes, additional pass availability may be 'subject to limitation'... as they say.)

Due to helping with the City of San Francisco fireworks display on July 4th, I (Mike Morris) am not able to attend the fair on Monday, July 4th, (ironically the most highly attended day of the Fair) so Karen Katich with Tami Ashford will be the Team Leaders on that day.

When signing up, indicate which days you are available. This year it falls over a four day weekend for most! So there will be more activity this year over the weekend! We really need extra folks for those days... especially Darth Vader! If there's anything I can do to help facilitate your participation on those days, please let me know !

If we have multiple "hero" characters signing up for the same day(s) (Darth, Boba Fett, Leia etc); we can work out a rotation schedule. Even if someone is already showing as signed up for a particular character, please sign up as well! It is preferable to have more than one per day so we can ensure we have at least one available throughout the day. If you have more than one costume, please feel free to bring them.

Quite frequently, members will be approached by other Fair vendors and asked to either pose at their displays for photos or to endorse their display / products. We are able to accommodate the vast majority of these requests. However there have been instances where commercial products were being displayed / promoted and we are obviously not allowed to endorse or promote them. If you are requested by other vendors for photos or other endorsements, please first consult with the team leader on duty at the time before accepting. Obviously, the GGG display has priority over others requests and our display should never be left unoccupied.

*** Opening Day - Ribbon Cutting ***
I would also highly recommend being present in costume for the "Ribbon cutting" ceremony (just prior to the Fair's official opening- 10am-11am) on June 30th. Each year, we are asked to 'roam' the crowds outside the turn styles, providing entertainment for the guests in line just prior to the Fair's grand opening. And I can tell you from experience... you will feel like a rock star! If you like attention from kids, you'd be hard pressed to find another event with this level of enthusiasm for us. Just ask those who've done it... it is very rewarding!

Kid's Day is Thursday, June 30th. Kids 12 and under get in for free. There are LOTS OF KIDS!

*** Obtaining Admission and Parking Passes and Directions to the Fair -- PLEASE READ ! ***
Because entrance & parking passes must be mailed out at least 1 week in advance of the fair (they are not available on-site / day-of-event), please make an effort to confirm your availability as early as possible. Cutoff date for mailing tickets is: June 22nd! If you miss the cut off, you may still attend, but your ability to gain entrance free of charge would not be certain.

Since we are provided with a limited number of entrance and parking passes, please be fairly certain about your attendance before confirming, since they must be sent to you in advance. (If you are sent passes and subsequently decline to attend, there could be a shortage of passes for others to attend in your place.) Even if you are tentative, please post just to provide an idea of the possible number of entrance & parking passes that must be acquired. Then when you are sure, please post a "confirmed" message.

This is a somewhat complex event to coordinate, and the more up to date info I received regarding member participation and numbers, the better equipped I am to keep abreast of our needs. So please endeavor to report any change as to your status or availability ASAP. Also, don't hesitate to post, email, or call (Mike Morris: cell 650-218-7412) with any questions/comments/suggestions you may have. You may also contact me via call or text (Karen Katich: cell 925-265-3046) or (Tami Ashford cell 925-808-8359).

Thanks! And hope to see you there!

I will be there on Saturday and Sunday as a Rebel Trooper part of the day.
Count Dooku for the rest of the day. I guess I could be Count Dooku before he went to the dark side as a Jedi!

Thank you to those of you who have signed up! This year the fair will have our names on a list that will be with security to allow us entry to the park and fair. So those that do not have "official" name with your RL name listed, I need your actual name to ensure you are on the list for entry!

I have:

Mitchell Johnson
Matt Tolusa
Dale Tolusa
Kathy Skirmont
Ernie Katler

Don't know if Telari is Sarah Adams or who it is. Please confirm your actual name.

Thanks again!

Karen Katich
